🚨 Are you aware of the new GMDSS updates? 🚨 The modernization of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS), effective from January 1, 2024, represents a major update, aligning maritime safety and communication protocols with contemporary technology. Here are some of the most important takeaways from these updates: - Centralization and Modernization of Communication Standards: Changes to SOLAS Chapters (II-1, III, IV, and V) have consolidated communication equipment requirements under Chapter IV, including updated standards for equipment like SART and VHF radios. GPS Threat Alert !⚠️ The EASA has identified rising risks related to GPS signal interference, warning airlines to pay attention. Signal blocking and signal deception can disrupt communication, navigation, and surveillance, impacting flight safety and efficiency. Affected regions include the Mediterranean, Middle East, Black Sea, Eastern Europe, Baltic Sea, and Arctic. To overcome these evolving challenges, the EASA advises to: 🎯 Confirm aircraft positions using Non-GNSS methods like VOR, DME, and INS. ⚙️ Implement instant reporting systems for any detected inconsistencies. 💼 Provide in-depth training to crew members to identify and respond to GPS interferences. 📜 Develop and upkeep operational protocols for navigation and landing that aren't reliant on GPS. As an additional tip, maintain regular check-ups and maintenance for navigation and communication tools, foster open communication channels with aviation authorities and other airlines, and ensure your navigation software is up-to-date. EASA issues latest updated SIB. Since about February 2022, there has been an increase in jamming and/or spoofing of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS). EASA has analysed recent data from the Network of Analysts and open sources and has concluded that GNSS jamming and/or spoofing has shown further increase in the severity of its impact, as well as an overall growth of intensity and sophistication of these events. This issue particularly affects the geographical areas surrounding conflict zones, but it is also encountered in the south and eastern Mediterranean, Black Sea, Middle East, Baltic Sea, and Arctic area. #gps #flightoperations #easa #airlineindustry #flightsafety
