In response to Tyreek Hill's detainment before Sunday’s Miami Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium game, the Fritz Pollard Alliance issued a statement: “Thankfully, on this occasion, nobody was seriously hurt. Were Hill, Campbell, and Smith not ultimately recognized as NFL players, the outcome may have been dire. It is our prayer that interactions with police across society will continue to improve and not escalate… The Fritz Pollard Alliance calls on the Miami-Dade Police Department to reassess its standard operating procedures with respect to both traffic stops and engaging with bystanders. Failing to do so invites a repeat of what occurred Sunday morning with potentially more tragic consequences.” The news of Tyreek Hill’s detainment shook the core of millions across the country who witness countless instances where police officers unfairly treat people of color. We commend the Fritz Pollard Alliance for using its platform to advocate and defend the rights of NFL players and American citizens. #NFL #TyreekHill #PoliceRelations #Justice Read the full statement: https://lnkd.in/eWdGtH7J

I have had several people reach out to me wanting my opinion on the brief detention of Miami Dolphin Wide Receiver Tyreek Hill. Any use of force is judged by Graham v. Conner. The factors are: 1- Severity of the crime; 2- Suspect posed a threat of death or great bodily harm; and 3- Suspect was actively resisting or evading. Just based on the BWC only, I believe the following: The charge was speeding/reckless driving. He was going 60 mph. The courts would view this as a "low-level misdemeanant." Hill never had a weapon and there was no inference that the officer was in danger. Hill wasn't exactly compliant but did provide his ID. The officer would have a difficult time arguing any of the Graham factors favor him during a lawsuit. The officer escalated this situation. Words, actions, and tone are all important. Although Hill should have just complied, you can tell the officer is triggered by anyone questioning his authority. This is the wrong way to communicate and illustrates how an officer can escalate a situation that didn’t need to be escalated. The reason we are talking about this is because he is a star NFL receiver. The communities of color will say this happens everyday to African Americans who are not professional athletes. Actions by this officer ruin the thousands of others who would have never escalated this situation. If you think the conduct from the officer is spot on, probably best to find a different line of work. Policing takes patience, thoughtfulness, and rapport building communication. None of that was evident from the BWC. Ryan Boxwell Jeff Kingsfield Dr. Mitch Javidi Dr. Rev. Shawn Moore Lee Vague Kelly Mayer Aimee Schroeder

Last week Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was stopped by police for speeding. The incident ended with Hill being pulled from his car and handcuffed, and one of the officers involved was placed on administrative duties. Our team analyzed six articles about the traffic stop in our Topic of the Week. Coverage from PBS and NBC 6 South Florida WTVJ had the most balanced and reliable reporting from our article set. Both articles fell into the "middle/balanced" category of bias and "mix of fact reporting and analysis or simple fact reporting" category of reliability. Articles from Vox and NewsOne displayed a "strong left" bias and a reliability rating of "analysis or other issues." The most unreliable reporting came from The Blaze and RedState. The Blaze article was found to be "selective/incomplete, unfair persuasion or propaganda." Coverage from RedState was found to "contain misleading info." The original article published in RedState said that Hill was driving over 100 mph. Later this was corrected to say he was clocked at 60 mph; however, references to Hill's excessive speed remained in the revised story, as did a reference to "100 mph" in the article's url. These misleading facts led to the article's low reliability rating. Both The Blaze and RedState articles had bias scores in the "hyper-partisan right" category. Do you agree with our analysts' ratings? You can read the six articles examined by our team on the Topic of the Week page on the website.

There are cheaters in every industry. This article discusses Michael Phelps, and his efforts to improve the enforcement of anti-doping rules. It talks about how clean athletes are disadvantaged and pressured into cheating just to compete. The personal injury industry has similar problems when it comes to improper client solicitation. I always tell people that right now it is like the steroid era in baseball where the rules were on the books, but nobody tested for steroids. When rules aren’t enforced, lawyers lose faith, cheaters are emboldened, and the public is harmed. I would encourage my fellow plaintiffs lawyers to not lose hope. Keep fighting against illegal and unethical activity. If we continue to make our voices heard, and work together to come up with solutions, we can help reduce this activity. If we don’t, there will be a vacuum and it will be the Wild West.

😈 #Shocking Scandal: #British MP Assaults Citizen in #Violent Incident! 😡 indicates that the individual does not deserve to hold that position. This MP should be held accountable for their actions, as violent behavior reflects a lack of respect for their authority and negatively impacts the image of Parliament. Political stupidity and unethical behavior cannot be tolerated, and there should be legal repercussions for such actions. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the videos circulating on #socialmedia and in the media as "#shocking," showing #Labour MP Mike Amesbury violently punching a passerby. The ruling #LabourParty suspended Amesbury's membership after the video went viral. Starmer did not comment on whether he would take action to suspend Amesbury's parliamentary membership following his party's action against him, pending the ongoing investigations. According to a spokesperson for the Labour Party, British police are investigating Amesbury, 55, over the incident in the constituency of Helsby and Runcorn in northwest England. In the circulated videos captured by surveillance cameras, Amesbury is seen punching a passerby on Friday evening in the main street of the market town of Frodsham, Cheshire. He did not stop there, continuing to strike the man repeatedly and delivering punches after he fell to the ground in a #violent manner. #بريطانيا #كير_ستارمر #حزب_العمال #مايك_أمنسبري #أخبار_عاجلة #viral #virals #explore #today #news #newsupdate #video #new #strike

Hi friends! We’re back with video number five in our 14-part series on Colorado ballot measures. Today, we’re discussing Amendment I, which addresses bail for individuals charged with first-degree murder. ⚖️ What’s the story? For years, Colorado’s law stated that those charged with a capital offense (like murder) could be denied bail altogether. But when the state ended the death penalty, first-degree murder no longer counted as a capital offense. This meant judges had to offer bail, even for murder charges! 😲 🔒 What would Amendment I do? This amendment would allow judges to deny bail for first-degree murder cases, instead of just setting incredibly high bail amounts (like $50-100 million). While this might not change much practically, it sets an important principle—that individuals charged with first-degree murder can be denied bail altogether. What do you think? Should people charged with murder be allowed out on bail? Let us know in the comments! #AmendmentI #BailReform #ColoradoVotes #BallotMeasures #FirstDegreeMurder #Vote2024 #CGHBallotSeries #JusticeMatters #LegalReform #VoteSmart
