In communities across the country, pharmacists are often the first and most easily accessible health care provider. Nine in ten Americans live within five miles of a pharmacy and many Americans depend on pharmacists to provide timely and reliable care and services. That is why McKesson is advocating for the Equitable Community Access to Pharmacist Services Act (H.R. 1770/S. 2477). Our company is a proud member of the Future of Pharmacy Care Coalition, a group of American healthcare companies and professional associations that together provide care for hundreds of millions of patients across communities and represent pharmacists and pharmacies of all sizes across the U.S. This bipartisan legislation will safeguard senior access to essential pharmacist services across the nation. While cost control remains one of the primary objectives of #PriorAuthorization, we cannot leave employees who need treatment waiting in limbo for extended periods. The key to prior authorization is determining where it is truly essential and ensuring a timely process that aligns with clinical appropriateness; a balanced approach where both clinical efficacy and financial sustainability for patients and employers must be considered. According to Medical Economics' 94th Physician Report, 39% of physicians spend 1-9 hours on prior authorizations weekly, while 17% spend over 20 hours. A few strategies that could be implemented to control costs and promote appropriate care while minimizing administrative burdens and delays in patient treatment include: ➡️ Setting clear guidelines that state which services require prior authorization ➡️ Categorizing time-sensitive services, allowing patients quicker access to medications ➡️ Enhancing communication between payers and #HealthcareProviders to find mutually beneficial solutions What other strategies do you suggest? Let's discuss them in the comments. #Healthcare #RxBenefits #EmployeeHealthcare

DIR fees continue to cast a shadow over the pharmacy landscape, posing significant challenges to pharmacies across the United States. While intended to control costs within the Medicare Part D program, these fees often have unintended consequences. The problem arises when these fees are applied unpredictably and retroactively, making it difficult for pharmacies to accurately forecast their finances and plan accordingly. Advocating for reforms that promote transparency, fairness, and sustainability in DIR fee practices can safeguard the vital role of pharmacies in our healthcare system and ensure access to quality care for all patients. How have these fees affected your pharmacy? Join the conversation and share your experiences. #RetailHealth #PharmacyAdvocacy #HealthcareInnovation
