After several years in a volunteer governance role, I recently decided it was time to step away. The transition provided me with a moment of reflection, allowing me to contemplate the often-overlooked challenges that accompany such roles, and the impact volunteering has on our community. #Volunteering #sportinggovernance #VolunteeringGovernance https://lnkd.in/gKaU3Zkd
Great article Mel. You have done so much for your club and other clubs.
Great article Mel - I agree there is a broader societal shift. I grew up with volunteering as part of our household and I think that has lead me to where I also have been a volunteer in many organisations. The balance for me is to have the right skills and expertise around the table of a board, this is tricky when it is voluntary.
This is a great genuine account of some of the realities (and life and death responsibilities) of volunteers. Thanks Melanie Parkin. Michelle Kitney, you might appreciate this read. Volunteering New Zealand | Tūao Aotearoa.
Such an important and undervalued resource.
Love your reflections, Mel!

6moOnya MP. Really hope the Inc Soc Act changes don’t drag volunteering into the legal gutter. It’s one thing to expect skill & diligence - it’s quite another to sheet home civil & criminal liability to those with a bent for service.
