Thanks to an innovative climate startup 1receipt® paper receipts could be a thing of the past! What makes their tech so good is that there is no need to exchange private emails or numbers to receive your receipt! The costs of those little curly pieces of paper are astounding: 🌲 Each year in the U.S., up to 10 million trees are used to make the paper. 🌊 And 21 billion gallons of water are used. 🗑️ The annual waste from receipts in the U.S. is 686 million pounds of waste. 🚗 Skipping receipts would save 12 billion pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2), the equivalent of one million cars on the road. 1Receipt is just one example of the awesome climate solutions springing out of Melbourne's thriving climate network #climatetech #climatenetwork #melbourne #climatesolutions Pic of CEO and Founder Shahryar Faraji

Our 2024 ClimateTech Index found that the 1,000 best funded UK ClimateTechs are worth £26bn, which is a superb success - but startups across the sector face challenges and the climate crisis demands us to go further, faster. So what do we plan to do next? We've got 5 priorities this year: 📈 Carbon Markets - through our Carbon Markets Innovation Forum we will pushing for Government action to create a high quality, high integrity voluntary carbon market that (where appropriate) intersects with the compliance market. 🍔 Feeding the Future - a campaign to put technology at the centre of food security and sustainability policy for this (and the next) government. This means cutting edge novel production and empowering farmers to increase sustainability whilst securing production. 🏘 Built Different - a campaign to accelerate the decarbonisation of construction and the built environment through the use of tech, and reform of EPCs to incentivise truly sustainable behaviours. 💰 For FOAK's Sake - a campaign to produce policy solutions to the late-stage valley of death funding gap that our ClimateTech Index showed so starkly. This means investigating the role of policy in supporting first-of-a-kind (FOAK) demonstrators to increase the number of ClimateTech scaleups in the UK. 🗳 A ClimateTech Manifesto - ahead of this year's General Election we want to convene the ClimateTech ecosystem to lay out a plan for the next government, in partnership with our friends at techUK, Tech Nation, Undaunted: Tackling climate change with innovation, and Cleantech for UK. We're after partners for all of the above, drop me a line if you'd like to get involved.

The world faces a waste management problem. And it's going to cost us everything if we don't deal with it. 🌍 This interesting article 👇 outlines some of the challenges of scaling up carbon removal technologies but right now we don't actually have cost effective, scalable solutions to do that. Until that point, government support and regulation together with more grant funding directed towards discovery research is needed to find the breakthroughs that are ready to scale, and provide the evidence and certainty that private commercial capital needed. 🌱 "What's your roadmap to price parity with fossil-fuel alternatives?" This is now my automatic question for climate tech startups. If you can't answer that and are relying long-term on carbon pricing and incentives, you probably don't have a viable business. That was a point made by veteran climate tech investor Sean O'Sullivan at this year's SOSV Climate Summit (https://lnkd.in/ejvtkkR2). The message he delivered was pretty clear. There is no 'green premium', and relying on incentives creates 'zombies': "The hope that consumers or enterprises would pay a green premium has so far turned out to be wrong... What works in climate tech is a better product at a market price that also happens to be a winner for decarbonisation." O'Sullivan then made a crucial distinction between 'launch support' and 'life support.' Government funding should be "strategic launch support" that "builds bridges to market success" - not a permanent crutch where the result is that businesses turn into 'zombies.' As we head into 2025, this is where we need to focus: How can we reimagine entire industries to become not just cleaner, but fundamentally better - cheaper and more efficient than their fossil-fuel counterparts? 💡 The SOSV Climate Summit sessions are available online. Highly recommend checking out the panel on reaching Series B, which includes, among others Heart Aerospace's Anders Forslund as well as an interesting discussion on maritime decarbonisation. It’s a Big Day for us at CleanTechies! ClimateTech Entreprenuers are constantly evolving. They have a critical mission. Stagnation is not an option. As supporters of these incredible individuals, we are evolving too. 🌎 It's rebrand time baby! 🌎 There are TONs of resources for ClimateTech Entrepreneurs. But still many gaps. In particular, there is no way for ClimateTech OGs to communicate (at scale) their lessons to the next gen of climate warriors. The knowledge transfer is not happening. Avoidable landmines are being stepped on every day. All because the person ahead didn't mark the safe path. Climate change is rapidly worsening -- we cannot afford mistakes. 🚨 ----- We'll be sharing more about what this next chapter looks like on our FIRST-ever monthly show, coming to you at the end of this July. Want to follow along and aren’t already? Click the link in the comments below to subscribe and join us on the next evolution of CleanTechies. ----- A huge thanks to all of the supporters (especially the ones who have been with us since the beginning)! 🙏🏽 #ClimateTech #ClimateChange #CleanTechies

I was just reading about entrepreneur Rebecca Hu who describes "eco-anxiety" as inspiration for her career in climate tech, specifically recycling. This term resonated with me, though I hadn't put words to it. Personally, I have waste-anxiety. Not to make light of it, but I felt this deeply watching the animated film WALL-E years ago. #wasteanxiety #sustainability #wastenot #climatetech https://lnkd.in/e8eGmUWv
