Growing up I played peewee hockey. For every travel tournament north of NYC we stayed at a roadside hotel. And the one thing and only thing that mattered to me about the hotel selected… Waffles. Nothing pumped me up more than a DIY waffles machine on morning gameday. Turns out, I wasn’t alone. ———— Today, Hampton Inn has become the largest hotel chain in America — And it's thanks to their Waffle Strategy.... “free DIY waffles” are driving a record $10B in sales. As the WSJ put it, the Hampton Inn created a “cult” around its waffles — we consume 30M/year. But here's the surprise: 40 years ago, the hotel chain's executives said the “free waffles” strategy wouldn't work: Guests could get burned, they won’t want to make their own food, and carbs were cultural villains. But they were wrong… Turns out guests enjoyed making waffles, didn’t get burned, & loved pausing the Atkins on vacay. So today, the Hampton has become the largest hotel chain in America by revenue — And it's all thanks to a waffle iron. ⭐️ Have the instinct to go against your instincts. #Throwback Ah, the excitement when the #SpringBreak #PartyBus rolls in! Working in #nightclub #security wasn’t just about managing venues, it often took me on the road as well. Let me explain. During spring break, when #SouthFlorida is packed with college travelers letting off steam, many venues I worked with provided a "trolley" service for guests. We’d schedule pickups, cruise the beach in #FtLauderdale, and bring partygoers safely to and from the club, making for some incredibly busy nights! Beyond crowd management, my role extended to high-value #transport operations, including moving large sums of cash and providing #executiveprotection for nightclub, lounge, and dining establishment owners, VIP, Celebrities, etc. during meetings and transactions. Every aspect of nightlife security is interconnected, requiring adaptability, vigilance, and strategic thinking. Thank you for your advocacy Dani Valent. When it comes to genuine political changes for small businesses in Australia, I recently asked my local Federal MP to table the motion for GST reform in food businesses. Changes could be one way to soften the crippling blow being dealt to the hospitality industry. 💡 My idea is this: Either remove GST from restaurant prepared food, or add GST to the raw goods. Removing GST from each transaction will support SME cash-flow by reducing the quarterly GST bill. And this is certainly the preference. If the cost of goods are GST-inclusive this could make it a more even playing field for the operators that purchase items GST free, transform the food item into a meal and then charge GST on the final product. Any GST incurred during this process can be claimed as a deduction. ‼️ Why does the SME sector bear the brunt of the cost of living crisis, when fossil fuel companies get huge subsidies? And paired to mouthwatering perfection with a different wine or champagne per course.
