For people across America, our flag is a reminder of our Nation’s founding principle. It stands for the sacred idea that we are all created equal and deserve to be treated equally throughout our lives. Our flag is also a reminder of our shared calling: to stand for the ideals our country was founded on — democracy, freedom, and justice for all. On Flag Day and during National Flag Week, we take pride in the promise and purpose represented by our Nation’s flag. Our country’s flag was created in 1777, when America was still a new idea. Americans flew it at their homes during the Revolutionary War as brave troops fought for our country’s independence from British rule — representing the resolve and resilience of our Nation’s 13 colonies with 13 stripes and stars. As our Nation evolved, so too did our flag — with every new star added to Old Glory, we were reminded that the work of forging a more perfect Union never ends. SOURCE: White House

Remembering Pearl Harbor: Honoring Lives and Their Stories Today, we reflect on the bravery and sacrifice of those who lived through the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. This devastating event changed the course of history and shaped the lives of an entire generation. The attack destroyed or damaged nearly 20 American naval vessels, including eight battleships, and over 300 airplanes. Tragically, 2,403 Americans were killed, and 1,178 others were wounded. This unprovoked assault was a catalyst for the United States to join World War II. Just days later, Germany and Italy declared war on the United States, bringing the nation into a global conflict that would define a generation. For those who were there, the memories are vivid: the shock, the fear, and the resilience in the face of unimaginable horror. These firsthand accounts are more than history—they are living reminders of courage and humanity. If you’re lucky enough to know someone who lived through that time, take a moment today to listen. Ask them what they remember, how they felt, and how life changed for them. Record their stories. Write them down. These personal narratives are treasures that preserve the lessons of our past for future generations. Let's not just remember the attack but also the incredible resolve that followed. Americans came together in unity, resilience, and a shared determination to defend freedom. It’s a reminder of what we can achieve when we stand together in the face of adversity. Let's also commit to honoring the voices of those who bore witness. History is not just found in textbooks; it lives in the hearts and minds of those who were there. #PearlHarbor #DayOfInfamy #LivingHistory #RememberAndHonor #WWII #chicagogensoc #chicagofamilylegacies

(Written on January 11, 2014) Neither narrow-minded ultra-nationalism nor extremely globalized border-free one-world government is considered to be an ideal form of the future world. It is significant for a person in each nation to maintain a global perspective and interact with many from different culture. However, each nation needs to maintain its independent national identity without being inclined to exclusive ultra-nationalism. No matter how international cross-cultural interaction is significant for the globalization and internationalization of each nation, it is a dangerous idea for one to expect the rise of one-world government beyond the national boundary, because it might lead to the rise of autocratic dictator who controls the entire world and oppress those who oppose his or her dictatorship through military forces under his or her authority. For Christians, it associates them with the rise of the anti-Christ and his great tribulation in the end of the history. Therefore, it is significant for each nation to maintain her solid national identity without becoming close-minded ultra-nationalism.

https://lnkd.in/dhNJV4nR Wagner PMC's role in the Ukraine is over, but the need to have a pool of paramilitary forces to plug the gaps remains. Cossacks are part of Russia's primordial history, and their semi-autonomous polities have negotiated State power for centuries. In this article for the The Modern Insurgent, I detail how Cossack communities are being mobilised to join Russia's war effort.

| We Will Never Forget | “One of the worst days in America’s history saw some of the bravest acts in Americans’ history. We’ll always honor the heroes of 9/11. And here at this hallowed place, we pledge that we will never forget their sacrifice.” —Former President George W. I was pleased to have a long conversation on TVO’s The Agenda about my newest book, The Good Allies. It explores how Canada and the United States defended North America during the Second World War, and then fought together against the Nazis and fascists. There are lessons here that might shape and inform current Canadian and American relations in a very dangerous world plagued by instability, war, and a new generation of fascists, and where energized alliances will be critical in defending the realm and supporting democracy abroad. https://lnkd.in/eHGTE3K3
