Newly published this month in The Lancet Regional Health - Americas, the Transforming Research and Clinical Knowledge in Traumatic Brain Injury (TRACK-TBI) Consortium provides the first comprehensive report on the contemporary neurosurgical practice for traumatic brain injury patients who underwent acute cranial surgery across 18 U.S. Level I trauma centers. This study, led by chief neurosurgery resident John K. Yue, MD and our chief of neurotrauma  Geoffrey Manley, MD, PhD, summarizes the clinical profile of the largest modern prospectively enrolled cohort of U.S. TBI patients. Using the strengths of the NINDS TBI Common Data Elements, the clinical profile includes information about the type of surgery received and the time to surgery as well as outcomes. This work provides a foundation for near-term hypothesis-driven investigations focusing on TBI risk stratification, diagnostic blood-based and neuroimaging biomarkers, prognostication, and comparative effectiveness research.   Read the full study here: https://lnkd.in/grJtfJbv The Lancet Group #TRACKTBI

Patient with subacute bilateral subdural hematomas. Now with the latest evidence demonstrating the efficacy of middle meningeal artery embolization to reduce risk of recurrence or further expansion, it is important to refine and improve our endovascular techniques to achieve sufficient closure of these arteries. In this case, we performed trans-radial access and embolization with Onyx-18 for optimal closure with good distal penetration which is associated with lower risk of recurrent bleeding. Injection time 15 seconds on each side. The landscape of neuroendovascular surgery and neurocritical care has undergone a remarkable transformation over the past two decades. In 2013, papers were published questioning whether #neuroendovascular surgery was DEAD! In 2004, #neurocritical care was struggling to survive as a discipline. Today, both have become integral and fundamental components of what a comprehensive stroke center is and healthcare. The field survived and thrived because pioneers pushed forward. Great start to the academic year! Presented today at Montefiore Einstein Neurosurgery Grand Rounds on #frailty and implications for oncologic surgery. Defined as a state of increased vulnerability to stressors, cancer patients are at a very high risk of being frail, particularly patients with spinal metastases. Ongoing research highlights the importance of incorporating this concept in the systemic assessment of patients. Decision Made in the Blink of an Eye – Quick Qualification and Successful Brain Tumor Surgery 🧠⏱️ #ThankYouTeam Precise Neurosurgery with Intraoperative Neuromonitoring Today, I had the opportunity to be part of a remarkable case involving a 28-year-old patient. 💼 At the Independent Public Specialist Western Hospital named after St. John Paul II, we recently conducted a challenging brain tumor resection near the motor cortex. The patient, a 28-year-old male, was admitted with intense headaches. A swift diagnostic process enabled us to quickly qualify him for surgery, led by Dr Błażej Nowak , assisted by Dr Paweł Kowalczyk. 👩⚕️ As a representative of Centro Medica Sp. z o.o., my role was to ensure intraoperative #neuromonitoring using inomed equipment. Neuromonitoring plays a crucial role in protecting the patient's neurological functions during surgery, particularly in delicate areas such as the motor cortex. With advanced monitoring techniques like evoked potentials and electromyography, we could continuously assess nerve pathway integrity, minimizing the risk of damage. 🔍 The entire procedure required precise collaboration among surgeons, anesthesiologists, and neuromonitoring specialists, allowing for safe and effective tumor removal.
