Top of the discussion agenda at future meetings about affordable housing should be convincing local councils to charge commercial rates on all rental properties. Rental properties are the only commercial properties in Australia that do not pay commercial rates despite being owned exclusively for the purpose of earning an income for the owner - not as a place for them to live. This local rates loophole is unjustified and is paid for by higher rates paid by all other ratepayers.
National Affordable Housing congratulates David Crisafulli MP and the LNP - Liberal National Party on their successful election campaign. With housing being a significant election issue, National Affordable Housing looks forward to working with David Janetzki, Sam O'Connor and the Crisafulli Government on their shared equity home ownership program and their commitment to unleash the community housing sector to deliver homes for Queenslanders. 📢 Rhode Islanders, Vote YES on Question 3 for Affordable Housing! 🏠 The housing crisis in Rhode Island is impacting all of us, but it’s especially challenging for marginalized and low-income communities. Question 3 on the ballot this November offers a vital solution with the $120 million Housing and Community Opportunity Bond, which will directly address our housing shortage and support the creation of affordable, sustainable homes. If passed, this bond will: ✅ Allocate $80 million to create and sustain affordable housing units, giving families and individuals a stable place to live. ✅ Support community redevelopment, infrastructure improvements, and pre-development initiatives to increase housing accessibility. ✅ Help municipalities acquire properties for affordable housing, creating more options for homeownership and reducing homelessness risks. We know that affordable housing plays a huge role in reducing inequalities and supporting economic growth, and this bond is an investment in both. Let’s come together to create real change and bring accessible housing to our communities. Vote YES on 3 to move Rhode Island toward a more inclusive future! 🌟 #RhodeIsland #AffordableHousing #VoteYes #Question3 #UnitedWeVoteRI Thank you United Way of Rhode Island for all your work around these vital issues our communities face. Veteran Housing Corp would suggest this is a good start in tackling the affordable housing crisis in America, although no local, state, or federal program should use a cent of taxpayer dollars to fund any project that does not guarantee AFFORDABILITY IN PERPETUITY (permanent affordability) for all units of a proposed project. If the State of Vermont can do it, so can the rest of America. A a model for all future government funded or subsidized housing projects or developments, no exceptions! https://lnkd.in/eFEUC8c8 Additionally, local, state and federal housing agencies should look to the Helsinki, FINLAND MODEL of ending homelessness by providing affordable housing for all 'It’s a miracle': Helsinki's radical solution to homelessnesshttps://lnkd.in/er9HZSQU Even the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development AGREES THAT adopting FINLAND'S MODEL OF ERADICATING HOMELESSNESS may be of great value to resolving the affordable housing and homelessness crises in America https://lnkd.in/gkSZWYRU

🌆 Why Local Government Matters This Election Season 🌆 City councils, county boards, and local committees are the unsung heroes of our communities. They shape the daily experiences in our neighborhoods, from parks to public safety and infrastructure. Often, these elected officials work behind the scenes to maintain and improve the quality of life right in our backyards. What Do City Councils Do? - Decision-Making: They make crucial decisions on land use, zoning, and economic development that impact housing, jobs, and green spaces. - Budgeting: Local councils oversee budgets for essential services, ensuring roads, parks, schools, and emergency services are well-funded. - Community Engagement: Through meetings, events, and planning sessions, they’re accessible to hear residents' voices and ideas. - Policy & Programs: From sustainability initiatives to public transportation, city councils shape policies that tackle both immediate and long-term challenges. Why Should We Care? Local government is where we see the most direct impact on our lives. This election season, let's think about the people shaping our communities, supporting local businesses, and promoting environmental stewardship. Every vote is a step toward shaping the future of our towns and cities. #LocalGov #CityCouncil #CommunityMatters #ElectionSeason #IVoted

With Election Day just around the corner, we want to urge our community to vote 'Yes' on Question 3. 💜What is Question 3?💜 Question 3 asks Rhode Islanders to approve $120 million in bonds to boost housing in the Ocean State. 💜What does Approval of Question 3 do?💜 It would provide the state with $80M to develop low and moderate income housing, $10M for community revitalization projects, $20M to develop low, moderate, and middle income housing, $5M for site acquisition for supportive housing, $4M for housing-related infrastructure, and $1M for municipal planning. 💜What does that MEAN though?💜 Bond funds will be used to ensure Rhode Islanders who are seeking affordable housing can find it. Specifically, it will enable low-income workers to afford a safe and permanent place to call home. It will help give Rhode Island’s homeless families the opportunity for a better quality of life. Reminder: Election Day is November 5th but Early Voting has already begun! Visit https://vote.sos.ri.gov/ to find your polling place and view a sample ballot.
