Many ask what I actually drink at home.... The truth is, it depends on what I am studying that week, where have I been, am I researching an area, is there a PR sample to assess etc. However, I did consume this INCREDIBLE wine from Australia the other week - thanks to Australian Vintners Ben Harvey Paul James Bartram When you think of Aussie Cabernet Sauvignon's you think of BIG, BOLD, DEEP and INTENSE Red wines - ready to give you a slap round the face (in truth). So I had prepared myself for the incoming onslaught as I poured out this deeply intense ruby colour into the glass and the pronounced aromas hit me. YES - there are grippy tannins to this wine - but ripe and beautifully integrated. YES - there are some spiced notes (black pepper being one) from the Shiraz in the blend. HOWEVER, this is a Cabnernet Sauvignon blend with Shiraz with SOOOO much complexity and elegance at the same time! A lovely balance of black fruits thanks to the Cab Sav - imagine blackcurrant leaf (think ribena), black cherry, blueberry and blackberries all dancing on the palate. Couple that with some incredible mint, eucalyptus, green pepper, black pepper, cedar, vanilla and liquorice and you are starting to realise there is so much going on in this glass. Smooth and silky to the elongated finish - this is a RECOMMENDATION! TOP TIPS, TRUTHS & MYTHS Corks and corked wine. Reality is 5%-10% of all bottles are effected by TCA commonly called cork taint, yep probably one in every case of wine What is it? Corked wine describes wine tainted with the chemical compound TCA (2, 4, 6- trichloroanisole). What does this mean well instead of the bright, fruity deliciousness from a wine as I would expect, there is the musty, damp-cardboard-dank basement, wet dog like smell of cork taint. So if 1 in 10 bottles can be effected its absolutely worth checking your second bottle of the same wine before topping up your glass!
