The 10th of August was World Lion Day and the 12th of August is World Elephant Day. One of the major threats facing these iconic species is human-wildlife conflict. I believe that coexist between people and lions and elephants is possible....these efforts towards coexistence should be local-led and community-driven and for the benefit of both people and wildlife. #communitydrivenconservation #worldlionday #worldelephantday

*Unrecognized Sacrifices: The Plight of Tarbela Dam Affectees* In the 1960s, the construction of Tarbela Dam in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's (KPK) District Torghar (formerly Kala Dhaka) transformed Pakistan's water landscape. However, this progress came at a steep human cost. *Forced Displacement* Over 96,000 people from 120 villages were forcibly displaced, leaving behind ancestral homes, fertile land, and livelihoods. The affected communities, primarily from the Torghar and Swati tribes, suffered immense social, economic, and cultural disruption. *Unfulfilled Promises* Decades later, many affectees remain uncompensated and unsettled. The government's assurances of rehabilitation and compensation have fallen short: - Land acquisition without fair compensation - Inadequate resettlement facilities - Lack of employment opportunities - Disrupted social fabric *Sacrifices Forgotten* The Tarbela Dam affectees' struggles are often overlooked: - Loss of cultural heritage - Displacement-induced poverty - Psychological trauma *Call to Action* It's time to recognize the sacrifices of these resilient communities! We demand: 1. Fair compensation for land and property 2. Adequate resettlement and infrastructure 3. Employment opportunities and skill development 4. Recognition of cultural heritage *Support the Cause* Let's raise awareness about the Tarbela Dam affectees' plight. Share their story and demand justice. #TarbelaDamAffectees #JusticeForDisplaced #CompensationNow #ResettlementRights #CulturalHeritage #KPK #Pakistan #SocialJustice #HumanRights Feel free to modify or add to this post to amplify the voices of the affected communities. In Bangladesh, millions of villagers still dream of having access to clean water at their fingertips. However, BURO Bangladesh has made that dream a reality for 595 households in Puran Baushia, a village in Munshigonj district, with access to piped clean water. With the installation of a piped water system, which has been ongoing for more than 15 years, 595 households now have access to fresh, arsenic-free water delivered right to their doorsteps. This transformative project, currently implemented by BURO Bangladesh and supported by the World Bank, the Social Development Foundation (SDF), and the people of the community, is the result of strong collaboration between local communities and development partners. In a region where clean water has long been scarce, this project has been addressing a critical need for safe drinking water and improving public health and quality of life. #BUROBangladesh #Microfinance #RuralpipedWatersupply

Why are we advocating against claiming "zero landlessness" in Bangladesh? 🤔Government officials in Bangladesh are claiming that certain sub-districts have "zero landlessness," meaning that those areas are free of landless people. This claim halts the distribution of khas (public) land to rural women and men. ❌That is not accurate in actuality and S4HL Bangladesh is taking action to advocate against these "zero landlessness" declarations. 🌱S4HL Bangladesh views the distribution of khas land to rural women as a crucial pathway to their economic empowerment and a strong method to increase women’s ownership of agricultural land in a country where women rarely inherit land. 👉Read more on the evidence and how S4HL Bangladesh is raising awareness and taking action on this issue: https://lnkd.in/gKpAdfMN #S4HL #LandRights #WomensLandRights

Chibok Girls: A Decade of Shame! Ten years have passed since Boko Haram abducted the Chibok schoolgirls, a stain on Nigeria's history. The outrage has morphed into a gnawing sense of shame and frustration. The initial failures to secure the girls' release can't be ignored. The new administration under Tinubu must prioritize this case. Pretending it doesn't exist is no longer an option. Two paths lie ahead: 1. #bringbackourgirls: Renewed, relentless efforts are needed to secure the girls' safe return. 2. #accountability: If their return is impossible, a full accounting for their lives is owed to the families. Silence is not an answer. Transparency and a commitment to justice are. We need to know the exact number of girls still missing. Share this post. Demand answers and action from the government. #chibokgirls #neverforgotten #nigeria #bringbackourgirls #injustice #injusticeisreal #chibokgirls ARISE News UNICEF

It is another November 19 United Nations World Toilet day. Theme #Toiletsareaplaceforpeace Let us take a moment to reflect on the realities of low-income households and their plights as they continue to grapple with open defecation and unsanitary toilet conditions. Here is a snippet from my annual documentary report on open defecation conducted in parts of South-South Nigeria. 2years later, and we ask what has changed? How has Nigeria fared in the fight against open defecation? How is Nigeria working towards the 2030 SDG 6.2 to achieve access to adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene for all and end open defecation? #Toiletsareaplaceforpeace is that the case in parts of Nigeria? #unitednations #opendefecation #SDG #Toiletforall #Toiletsareaplaceforpeace
