PFOS (Perfluorooctane sulfonate) and PFAS (Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are types of synthetic chemicals that belong to a group known as perfluoroalkyl substances. Both are widely used in various industrial and consumer products due to their unique properties. While PFOS and PFAS offer useful properties in various applications, they have raised concerns due to their persistence in the environment and potential health effects. They have been detected in water sources, soil, wildlife, and human blood samples worldwide. Studies have shown that exposure to PFOS and PFAS may be linked to adverse health effects, including developmental issues, liver damage, immune system dysfunction, and certain types of cancer.
