“I’ve learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way (s)he handles these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights.” -Maya Angelou Our Leadership is defined by how we act when faced with adversity. Our Character; Our Behavior; Is what truly defines our Leadership. In Leadership, we’re faced with adversity almost every day. For those who have been in Leadership for years, even decades, they’ve learned how to react and act in high-stress environments. For emerging Leaders, we're seeing this is something they struggle with immensely as they start their leadership journey. The worst part: - We can all see their reaction. It doesn’t go unnoticed. - Not only can we see it, but we can feel it. How can you get beyond this? 🌟 Leadership is Contagious: How Your Conduct Shapes Others 🌟…. I was lucky enough to spend last week with Ian Chisholm and Vivienne Damatan, PCC, CEC from Roy Group Leadership, learning ‘the coaching approach to leadership’ - all I can say is I couldn’t wait to write this post! Leadership transcends strategy, numbers, and decisions—it’s fundamentally about conduct. As Ian Chisholm, Partner at Roy Group, emphasizes, “The way you choose to conduct yourself creates an atmosphere inside others.” 🧠 Key insights inspired by the Roy Group and Ian Chisholm: • Leadership is about presence. Are you someone others feel safe with, inspired by, or challenged to grow alongside? • “We teach what we tolerate.” Your response to mistakes, setbacks, or even triumphs sets the tone for how others will handle theirs. • “Leaders cast long shadows.” Whether you’re intentional or not, your actions ripple through the organization. 💡 Here’s how to lead intentionally: 1️⃣ Pause before reacting. Emotional reactions can unintentionally harm morale or trust. 2️⃣ Model vulnerability. Sharing your own growth moments invites others to do the same. 3️⃣ Shift from critique to coaching. Be curious about solutions rather than dwelling on problems. 4️⃣ Live your values. People will follow what you do—not just what you say. 🔥 An Example: Transformative Leadership on the Isle of Skye At 27, Ian Chisholm led a leadership development center on Scotland’s Isle of Skye, bringing together at-risk youth from Glasgow and corporate executives. By facilitating mutual coaching, he demonstrated that leadership is about creating environments where everyone can learn and grow, regardless of background. 📣 What shadow are YOU casting as a leader? Your conduct has the power to inspire, connect, and ignite others—or to dampen their potential. What intentional action will you take today to lead with purpose? ✨ Share your thoughts below or DM me to discuss leadership strategies. Let’s create a ripple effect together! 🌊 Anthony Biro Brent Hazelton #coaching #leadership #growth #victoria

In the world of leadership literature, there are countless books promising the secret to effective leadership. Yet, amidst this sea of advice, there are few voices as insightful and impactful as Brené Brown’s. As a coach dedicated to these principles she espouses, I wholeheartedly recommend her book “Dare to Lead” to anyone seeking to unlock their true potential as a leader. In the book, Brown dives deep into the heart of what it means to lead with courage, vulnerability, and authenticity. Drawing from her extensive research on shame, vulnerability, and resilience, Brown offers a transformative approach to leadership that challenges conventional wisdom and inspires profound personal growth. One of the key insights is the importance of embracing vulnerability as a strength rather than a weakness. In a world that often equates vulnerability with failure, Brown encourages leaders to lean into discomfort and cultivate the courage to be vulnerable. By showing up authentically and owning our stories, Brown argues, we can forge deeper connections with our teams, foster a culture of trust and belonging, driving meaningful change. Another powerful concept explored in “Dare to Lead” is the idea of rumbling with vulnerability. Brown emphasizes the importance of having difficult conversations, addressing uncomfortable truths, and embracing uncertainty as essential components of effective leadership. By leaning into these “rumble” moments with empathy and integrity, leaders can navigate conflict, foster collaboration, and create environments where innovation thrives. Furthermore, “Dare to Lead” offers practical strategies and actionable advice for cultivating courageous leadership in everyday life. From setting clear boundaries to giving and receiving feedback with grace, Brown provides a roadmap for developing the skills and mindset necessary to lead with authenticity and empathy. The guideposts on that roadmap include: * Promote Vulnerability as Strength * Encourage Courageous Leadership * Leverage Research-Based Insights * Focus on Emotional Intelligence * Emphasize the Importance of Trust and Empathy * Build Resilience and Adaptability * Enhance Team Collaboration and Innovation As someone who has experienced firsthand the transformative power of authentic leadership, I can attest to the profound impact of Brené Brown’s insights. Brown not only challenges us to rethink our approach to leadership but also empowers us to become the leaders our teams and organizations desperately need. #bookreview #leadership #brenebrown
