Getting to serve Cone Health leaders and physicians last week was both a privilege and a reminder of what matters most in the work we do every day. Together, we explored how joy and engagement aren’t just nice-to-haves but essential elements of enduring high performance. After all, to truly thrive—and not just survive—in our personal and professional lives, we must find ways to enjoy what we do. What struck me most during the Q&A was how deeply Cone’s culture aligns with this idea. Their values of caring for each other and inspiring pride, passion, and fun are more than just words; they’re lived practices. Many of the questions and reflections from the audience underscored this truth: joy isn’t optional; it’s vital. In The Fun Habit, I talk about why we need to rethink how we approach joy, weaving it into our lives with intentionality. It is clear that Cone Health embodies this mindset by fostering environments where people can connect, grow, and find meaning in their work. I’m grateful to have had the chance to contribute to this incredible community. As we head into 2025, my hope for everyone is to embrace the joy that sustains us, both at work and beyond. Here’s to more fun, purpose, and connection in the year ahead! 🙌 #TheFunHabit (A huge shout to Maria Gonzalez, one of the most fun people I know who planted the seed that brought this experience to light.)

November Reflections: Advancing Health Equity Through Strategic Partnerships As we approach the end of the year, November is a great time to reflect on the impact that partnerships have on driving meaningful health equity initiatives. At Vibrant Health Equity Group, I believe that lasting change happens when organizations align on shared goals for community wellness and inclusivity. This year, I've seen the power of collaborative planning and cross-sector partnerships. Whether it’s engaging with local organizations or strategizing with healthcare leaders, I’m reminded that equity-driven decisions require both commitment and accountability. As we plan for 2024, let’s continue the momentum by building partnerships that prioritize community voices and champion actionable health equity practices. 📢 How are you planning to incorporate health equity into your strategy next year? Let’s connect and discuss ways we can make a difference, together!

Katie Cornell is a patient services representative. Every day, she follows a strict schedule, picking up the clinic’s mail at 2 p.m. But on this day, something told her to head out a little earlier. She couldn’t explain why — just a feeling, a hunch. As she walked outside, she heard an odd noise coming from an awning that had been installed less than a year ago. It didn’t sound right. Instinctively, she banged on the window of a car in which a patient’s husband was napping while he waited. Startled, he woke up and moved his car. Seconds later, the awning came crashing down, right where the car had been parked. In that moment, Katie saved not only his life, but also the lives of three others, including her own. A routine task, a decision to step outside a little earlier than usual, taking action when something didn’t feel right — all are seemingly insignificant on their own. Yet Katie’s presence of mind, her awareness of her surroundings, and most importantly, her heart to care for those around her, converged to create a moment of extraordinary impact. Later, Katie sent her manager a simple text: “I saved a life today.” Thank you, Katie. Your story is a reminder that every decision we make matters. We each have the power to make a difference. It’s about being aware, being present, and above all, caring deeply for the people we serve and for each other. No matter your role at Corewell Health, know this: your work is essential, and your actions have an impact far beyond what you might see in the moment. Acting with heart and purpose, there’s no limit to what we can achieve. #HealthcareHeroes #EverydayHeroes #WorkplaceSafety #EmployeeSpotlight

We are proud to announce that Quality of Life Foundation and OURI Labs have formed a strategic partnership to develop and deliver capacity building workshops for local authorities across England. Matthew Morgan, director and co-founder from Quality of Life Foundation said: "Our partnership with OURI Labs aims to enhance the capabilities of local authorities. By bringing together expert facilitation and innovative systems thinking methodologies, we are equipping councils with the tools they need to effectively tackle complex local challenges. The success of our pilot workshop with East Sussex County Council demonstrates the transformative potential of this collaboration in fostering healthier, more resilient communities." Lourdes Madigasekera-Elliott, the Public Health Strategic Lead, from East Sussex County Council praised the initiative: "The power of external facilitation has been key. It has been invaluable in helping us navigate and determine how we can better 'have the conversation', join up, improve our system dynamics, and create positive change to achieve our mutual priorities and policy objectives."
