𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞-𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐆𝐂𝐒𝐄 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞? Last night, we hosted our options evening for current Year 8 students who will begin their three-year GCSE curriculum in Year 9. It was a brilliant, buzzing evening with lots of chat and excitement from current and new students joining us in September 2025. Deputy Head Chris Smith explains the advantages of following this pathway: 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 • A three-year programme allows students more time to explore subjects in greater depth. With reduced pressure and following GCSE reforms, students benefit from the additional time for thorough understanding. • Students can dedicate more time to refining critical skills such as analysis, problem-solving, and essay writing, which are essential for GCSE success. ✍️ 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 • By spreading out the content, students are less likely to feel overwhelmed, improving their chances of achieving higher grades and promoting wellbeing. • The extended period provides regular reviews and practice opportunities, reinforcing learning and boosting long-term retention. Teachers have the time to employ research-informed practice, including spaced repetition, interleaving and mastery learning in lessons. 🏫 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 • Students can begin specialising earlier in their areas of interest, giving them a head start in pursuing future academic or career goals. • Students tailor their curriculum pathway to suit their own individual strengths. • Teachers can identify and address gaps in knowledge or skills earlier, providing targeted interventions where needed. 🧑🏫 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬 • The extended timeline teaches students to manage their workload effectively over a longer period. • Students often feel more confident with additional time to master challenging subjects and complete coursework. 💻 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭-16 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 • A three-year GCSE programme can be a smoother transition to A-levels or other post-16 qualifications requiring deeper subject knowledge. • Students gain a more solid academic foundation, which can encourage higher aspirations and better preparation for further studies. 📚 Visit our website for more information and contact our admissions team for a place in September. www.stamfordschool.org.uk Chris Seal Mark Steed Chris Smith Moira Cox #gcse #school #education #stamford #stamfordschool #curriculum #students #teachers
