I've been in coversation the last couple of days with a group of reporter friends about what journalism should look like in Trump's second term, what journalists should learn from how they handled and mishandled coverage during his first term and what the public thinks about the media. The conclusion: At this critical moment, journalism that's credible, holds the powerful accountable and contributes to the public record matters. This article by Axios CEO Jim VandeHei is an important read on the same topic. "Absent reporting, which I define as the pursuit of fact-based truth without fear or favoritism, you'd have: more opioid deaths … more kids sexually abused in churches … more welfare fraud in Mississippi … more lawlessness in rural Alaska … more Harvey Weinsteins preying on young women … more corruption … more misinformation," VandeHei said.
