Jochen highlighted that brake-by-wire has been a game-changer in the trucking industry for nearly 30 years. Introduced in 1996, brake-by-wire has enhanced safety, efficiency, and comfort for truck drivers, fleet owners, and all road users. A tragic event in 1987 spurred the introduction of brake-by-wire in trucking as a critical safety feature, and its success hinges on a robust safety concept. Electrification is key to the development of electronically controlled braking systems, and looking ahead, brake-by-wire will be crucial in enabling automated driving functions. This technology has significantly evolved alongside advancements in materials, pneumatic brake technology, software, and CPUs. Electronic braking systems on tractors and trailers have notably reduced braking distances. The goal is to produce 100,000 such vehicles per year by 2030 - primarily light commercial vehicles.” Carla Westerheide - 30.04.2024 “So far, Stellantis has offered #fuelcelldrives for its medium-sized and large vans, which it builds at the plants in Hordain, France, and Gliwice, Poland – production of the fuel cell versions started at the beginning of the year. But these models are not the end of the story, as Jean-Michel Billig, head of the Group’s #hydrogen programme, announced to the German newspaper Welt am Sonntag.” “This year, we are starting production of larger vehicles in Poland, and development in North America will follow quickly – especially for the #fuelcell version of the large Ram 5500,” said Billig. The new version of the Ram 5500 #pickuptruck will be manufactured in Mexico. The Ram 5500 is an over seven-metre-long version of the well-known pickup model, equipped with dual tyres on the rear axle to increase the payload. Magna has developed modular electric solutions for electrification of Pickup Trucks - eBeam, EtelligentEco, and EtelligentReach are modular functional integrated powertrains ! Magna, one of the world's largest suppliers, has developed three electrification solutions for customers such as Fisker: eBeam, EtelligentEco, and EtelligentReach. eBeam replaces the driveshaft and rear axle of regular pickup trucks with a structure comprising an electric motor located where the differential would be and the half shafts. eBeam offers power options ranging from 120 kW (161 hp) up to 250 kW (335 hp) in three variants: single motor and single speed, single motor with two speeds, and twin motor, single speed with torque vectoring. Magna's EtelligentEco is a solution for PHEVs. It claims to help reduce emissions by up to 38% and can reach a range of 62 miles (100 km) using an integrated 120-kW motor. EtelligentReach is an all-wheel-drive system for electric cars, extending the range by 20% or more than 145 km (90 miles) compared to existing vehicles in production.
