In 2017, the Canadian egg industry publicly committed to phasing out battery cages by 2036. But instead of going cage-free, many farms and egg companies are switching to slightly larger “enriched” cages. One of these companies is Burnbrae Farms—Canada’s largest egg supplier. Burnbrae’s packaging fails to show the truth about where the company’s eggs come from. Its Naturegg Nestlaid labels feature images of green open-air pastures and happy cartoon eggs. In reality, the Nestlaid line sources eggs from hens forced to live in cruel enriched cages. Their lives are far from happy. Hens need all of us to speak up for them! Tell Canada’s biggest egg producer NO MORE CAGES. Go to BurnbraeHarms.ca and take action today.

People often ask us why our pastured pork is so juicy, tender and well-marbled. Whilst there are many factors, feeding 'Whey' has to be high on the list. This age-old practice has been around for as long as people have raised pigs. And for good reason - the pork is simply delicious. We are fortunate to live in dairy country with high rainfall, good soils and a local cheese producer! 🧀 During cheese production, about 90% of the milk used ends up as a highly nutritious and delicious (if you are a pig 🐷) by-product. Which is why almost all dairies in years gone by had a piggery. They were onto something! Due to the industrialisation and centralisation of the milk and pork production systems, this is no longer economically feasible in most cases. So, this highly beneficial by-product has become a waste product. Thankfully, with a bit of creative thinking, we can utilise this pig wonder food- packed full of essential proteins, vitamins and minerals, whilst simultaneously reducing an industrial by-product. Now that’s a win-win! #KnowYourFarmer #Farming #PastureToPlate

Pls copy, paste, and send/post to fb, instagram, etc., under Burnbrae farms, and hold them accountable for keeping hens in cages. Hens bring you food. They do not need to be abused to do it.❤ I see several egg producers worldwide moving away from cages. Why does Burnbrae continue to invest in “enriched cages” and mislead consumers? www.burnbraetruth.ca This new investigation highlights the truth about hens in “enriched colonies”—they’re stuck in cages! Will Burnbrae do the right thing and move away from cruel cages? www.burnbraetruth.ca No matter what you call “enriched colonies,” the truth is that they are very similar to conventional battery cages. When will Burnbrae stop investing in cages and go cage-free? www.burnbraetruth.ca A decorated cage is still a cage. It’s past time Burnbrae stops investing in cages - go cage-free. www.burnbraetruth.ca https://lnkd.in/dfm3kiMU

Have you had a PB&J today? If yes, you’re not alone. The National Peanut Board reports that the average adult eats one three times a month. Maybe more in November—National Peanut Butter Lovers Month! And peanut growers work hard to make sure there’s enough to spread around. To support healthy peanut yields, they carefully monitor both plants and soil for signs of boron deficiency. We’re investing £1bn in British eggs 🥚🐔 To ensure the future success of British free-range egg farms, we are proud to announce a £1 billion investment into the British egg industry over the next 5 years 👊 📈 Free-range egg sales have jumped by over a third since last year, so as we work towards exclusively stocking free-range British eggs, we have also launched a dedicated producer group for our free-range egg farmers, offering: ☑ Long-term cost of production contracts. ☑ Guaranteed minimum volumes. ☑ Assistance in securing finance from banks. ☑ Additional funding to build new free-range sheds. 📽 Meet Julia, one of our dedicated farmers and a member of our free-range egg producer group. With Lidl’s support, including an investment of over £5 million, Julia’s family farm is now expanding rapidly, quadrupling its output and building new sheds – setting it up for long-term success 👍 Watch more below ⬇ #LidlGB #BritishFarming #FreeRangeEggs #SustainableAgriculture

As a retailer in the specialty South Asian & Middle east food sector, it's encouraging to see large supermarkets investing in the production and manufacturing of their products. I'm passionate about providing our customers with the best quality, and it's exciting to see investments in free-range egg production. This should result in better quality and tastier eggs for consumers. It would be interesting to understand the details of where the reported £1 billion investment over five years will be allocated. As stated, part of this strategy includes: * Long-term cost of production contracts * Guaranteed minimum volumes *Assistance in securing finance from banks *Additional funding to build new free-range sheds From a business perspective, these investments will also help maintain their position as one of the biggest sellers of free-range eggs in the UK. This strategy aims to: *Protect their supply chain *Secure product availability for customers *Shield themselves from price fluctuations in the coming years As small retailers, we must identify food producers with a focus on sustainability and align ourselves with them. It's crucial to move away from producers solely focused on creating the cheapest products at the expense of quality and ethics. In this evolving landscape, our strategy should be to: Partner with ethical and sustainable producers Emphasize quality over merely chasing the lowest prices Educate customers about the benefits of higher-quality, sustainably produced foods By taking this approach, we can differentiate ourselves in the market and contribute to a more sustainable and ethical food industry. #RetailFood #Sustainability #EthicalProduction #SpecialtyFoods #eggs
