Although this game is not meant for an evil party, I put enough enough spin on the storyline to make this a believable playthrough. I use as much of the plot as possible, but spoiler alert... the antagonist chose the wrong mentor to cut down, and hence setting our party into a rage of revenge. This game is based on the 2nd edition ruleset of Dungeons and Dragons, and the story is centered in the Forgotten Realms world map. Warning - thar be spoilers! I have not been so excited about any game for a very long time. Black Myth: Wukong is coming out next Tuesday. The last time I was so excited about a game was Final Fantasy VII Remake and the one before was Starcraft II and Warcraft III. Both held very special places in my early lives. With much more responsibilities now I prob won't have the time to play for a while, and there's no physical store to lineup at midnight anymore. But hopefully I would get a chance to play through at some point. What's amazing about this is that this a game developed by a studio coming out of nowhere. Despite the polarization effect of technology and platforms (UE5 in this case), there's also an opportunity to bridge the gap for new, smaller teams to compete with the establishment, which honestly has been just rehashing old ideas. Wukong (the Monkey King) also has such an influence over so many over hundreds of years - when Wu Cheng'en wrote the fiction in 1600s, he prob never would thought that the story will be reimagined on the latest silicon to the world someday. The truth-seeking, courageous, rebellious yet caring Monkey King has been the inspiration of people for hundreds of years, and probably will continue to be, hundreds of years more. Sometimes I am intrigued why these classics have hundreds of years of influence? There's something true about the story and what we are seeking as humans, that prob resonate across cultures and time - as these classics have withstood the trials of time. I hope this game will be successful, and a watershed moment to inspire more stories to be told in authentic ways from many corners of this world in new creative forms.
