It’s a special day as we welcome Blake Modersitzki to our advisory team. Blake’s background speaks for itself. Before his role at Pelion Venture Partners, he served as Managing Director of Novell Ventures and Vice President of Corp Dev at Novell. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Brigham Young University. As Managing Partner at Pelion, Blake has raised over $1B in capital and invested in the world's leading companies like Cloudflare, Divvy from BILL, Weave, BigPanda, and more, building a legacy of identifying, financing, and servicing the next generation of technologies and leaders. He’s one of the most magnetic leaders in the VC industry, best illustrated by the team he has surrounded himself with. From day one, Blake has been a key supporter of Meridian Ventures. He has graciously gifted much of his time to the partnership, helping us think through key strategic fund decisions. We’re fortunate to learn from someone so deeply influential in the VC community. Blake has always championed entrepreneurship in all its forms, and we’re excited to collaborate with him as we continue to redefine the future of entrepreneurship. We’re looking forward to the road ahead with Blake and Pelion by our side! #pelion #venture #venturecapital #meridian #startups #funding #finance #utah

I've been really impressed with Airtree's Explorer program so far. Some insightful points from today's session: ⚡ The "Power Law" is real 🇦🇺 Australia punches above our weight for return on angel/VC capital 👀 Seeing behind the scenes of real cap tables is must for "angels in training" 📈 ~20% of seed invested companies will successfully raise a Series A round 📉 < 3% of seed invested companies will successfully raise a Series C round 💰 New angels should think though a budget for an initial (~10 company) portfolio, which will allow you to calculate your average check size 🤑 Keep a reserve of capital to double down on your "winners" 🚀 Investors are never the main character, our job is to support the founders Big shout out to James Cameron for sharing his insights today, and Jess Walker and Victoria Lowe for running the ship - we appreciate you! #startups #scaleups #planetstartup #cfo #finance #startupaus #metrics

Early-stage investors had a quandary. The Simple Agreement for Future Equity, or SAFE, offered #startup founders a fast, simple way to offer future equity in exchange for cash today, but left VCs and other funders without clear answers for how to treat the investments at tax time. Our #tax and #venture teams could not pass that uncertainty onto clients, so they came up with SAFE Preferred Stock — an entirely new way to raise funds, one that allowed founders to move fast while keeping funders fully covered. Just one more way Frost Brown Todd is setting a higher standard. Over the last several years in the #VentureCapital and #AngelInvesting communities, there have been major developments regarding Simple Agreements for Future Equity, widely known as #SAFE documents. While SAFE agreements can be helpful and create efficiency in investing in #EarlyStage companies, these documents often create some tax ambiguity for the investor. My partners at Frost Brown Todd have developed a solution that remedies these problems. Please take a look at our new early-stage investment toolkit, which includes SAFE+ documents. And please reach out to me or Eddy Moore if you have any questions or comments. #VC #Investing #Angel #Startup

The Bonds That Fuel Startup Success Take note of this powerful statement from Bryan Leach, CEO of Ibotta, Inc., towards investor Robin Li of Notable Capital: "Robin, you found us, advocated for us, invested in us, advised us, believed in us. Thank you. I don't think there's a finer venture fund than Notable Capital." These heartfelt words perfectly capture the invaluable role that hands-on, supportive investors can play in a startup's journey. Bryan Leach's public expression of gratitude underscores the profound impact these supportive investor relationships can have. As we continue to nurture our startup communities, let's embrace the spirit exemplified by Leach and Li – one of authentic partnership, and a shared determination to create something amazing.#startups #investors #mentor #partnerships #IPO #growth

Starting a company? Choose a Delaware C Corp, even if you're currently outside the United States. Here's why: 1. Delaware C Corp is the industry standard. If you're planning to fundraise from startup investors, a Delaware C Corp is the best choice. 2. It works for international founders. Even if you're based outside the US, I still recommend starting with a Delaware C Corp and then working with a local law firm to create a subsidiary in your home country. 3. It's a worthwhile investment. Although setting up a Delaware C Corp and creating a subsidiary may cost more in the short term, it's almost always worth it. #startups #founders

A founder with a previous exit is raising a pre-seed round from angels for his new venture. He is not participating. Two things come to my mind: A) The exit was not a real exit, little or no cash. So why talk about it? B) He does not fully believe in what he is doing and wants to derisk. It somehow created a bad feeling. Putting my own money in as an exited founder is a massive signal for me. Red flag? ____________________________ Sharing my experience as an entrepreneur and angel investor. Investing in early stage B2B SaaS startups. Happy to connect 👋

I'm beyond thrilled to share that fynk has raised a €3.1 million seed round let by 3VC with participation from 10x Founders and further commitment from existing investors. This isn't just about the funding - it's a validation of the countless hours, the ups and downs, and the unwavering belief that Dominik, Markus, and I have poured into building something we truly believe in. Bootstrapping the first phase of fynk was a rollercoaster. Founding a startup comes with its challenges - you really have to keep believing in yourself and the team you've put together. In that sense, this is a defining milestone in our career, and it enables us to accelerate our mission on a much larger scale in the upcoming years. We came to disrupt, and now, with our new investors on board, we genuinely can. I first met Peter Lasinger almost a decade ago, and I couldn't be happier to now join forces and work together with 3VC. They've already proven to be a great, impactful partner in just the past few days and weeks. We're so glad to have chosen a VC that truly cares about technology and real value - not just the shiny objects visible to the naked eye. I just returned from three amazing days in Munich, where I had the pleasure of meeting most of the 10x Founders team, including Jessica and Julian. We're excited to work with them as they spearhead a new breed of VC with a very founder-driven approach, fostering a vibrant and supportive community where we were welcomed so warmly from day one. A special shoutout to our existing investors - Johann 'Hansi' and Lisa (Hans(wo)men Group), CoastCap (Moritz / Clemens), Stefan, Kai, Ignaz, Alexander, Manuel, Andreas and of course Domagoj - for their continued conviction and support. Their renewed commitment means the world to us and underscores their immense trust in our vision and team. The past few weeks and months have been truly rewarding. I've had inspiring and insightful conversations with many of the big names in the VC ecosystem. Even when discussions didn't result in actual investments (which, by nature, has to be most of the time), there's so much to learn about your market as a founder if you listen closely. But now, I'm looking forward to shifting into EXECUTION MODE. I can't wait to dive back deep into code (home is where the heart is, after all) and work closely with the rest of the team on delivering what we've promised. Here's to the next chapter of fynk! Let's build the future together. #fynk #startup #funding #teamwork #innovation #legaltech #entrepreneurship #grateful
