Kindness Above All! ❤️ In my last post, I opened up about my mental health journey, and the support I got was heart-warming. Thanks to everyone who reached out! Well, it reminded me of the power of sharing our goals & challenges without any fear. So today, I want to share how I have turned my struggles into opportunities to be positive. As I mentioned, I have faced some tough times in recent months that really put my mental health to the test. But the lessons I learned through #sports, like never giving up and working harder, have made me stronger!! Now, drawing on my own experiences, I have realized and put my thoughts in place to use sports to make a difference in the world! So, I am gonna start simple and eventually use sports to address important issues raised in the UN Sustainable Development Goals - a goal I set when I did an Olympics course. Although there are 17 UN SDGs, I will focus on Goal #3 - Good Health and Well-Being, Goal #5 - Gender Equality, and Goal #10 - Reducing Inequalities. Sports have the power to promote not just physical but also mental well-being, break down barriers, and create opportunities for everyone, just like the way it did for me. Support me in this journey as I will talk and share sports content for positive social impact. Together, let's build a healthier, more equitable, and sports-friendly world. Empowering Through Sport: Promoting Health & Equality! I want to highlight "Empowering Through Sport: Promoting Health & Equality," an initiative that has had a profound impact on me. This program leverages the power of sports to promote health and equality, particularly for women and girls of reproductive age. By cultivating an inclusive environment, the initiative empowers these individuals to lead healthier lives, access essential resources, and champion their rights within the community. It serves as a powerful reminder of how sports can break down barriers and inspire the next generation of leaders. To my fellow young leaders: These are the kind of messages we need to get out there as a reminder of how sports set the stage for creating a power that can make a change for an improved tomorrow! Let’s unite to amplify these messages. 💪🏽🌟 #LearningSprintIOCYL @IOCYoungLeaders

Despite strides towards gender equality in workplaces, new research conducted by UNICEF Australia and our partners Parents At Work reveal persistent challenges for working parents and carers, particularly impacting women. The 2024 National Working Families survey, completed by over 6,200 Australian working parents and carers, underscore the urgent need for workplaces to address the gender imbalance in caregiving responsibilities and create inclusive policies that support all employees. Key findings from the survey highlight: 🔹 Increased Stress: Balancing work and family commitments has become more stressful for both men and women, with women feeling the pressure more acutely. 🔹 Challenges Remain: The top challenge for parents and carers continues to be maintaining their physical and mental health amidst competing demands. 🔹 Gender Divide Persists: Workplace cultures still predominantly support men as primary earners and women as primary caregivers, reflected in parental leave policies and caregiving responsibilities. 🔹 Positive Impact of Family-Friendly Policies: Certified Family Friendly Workplaces show lower negative impacts and higher satisfaction with work-life balance among employees. As we navigate the future of work, we must prioritise policies and practices that promote equality, flexibility, and wellbeing for all working families. Excellent news of additional funding for a member of our Safety and Wellbeing in Sport Research group- A/Prof Fiona McLachlan. Her research, in partnership with Football Victoria and Regional Sport Victoria seeks to help football clubs assess their club environment and implement new practices to address gender inequity. Gender inequality provides the underlying conditions for gender based violence to occur. Changing engrained, normalised behaviours takes time: it’s complex and you have to address the underlying gendered drivers (social norms, attitudes, structures) that lead to inequity. So far this project has worked with people from over 60 football clubs and has had some incredible impact in changing how people think about in-equity in sport (and yes, it goes far beyond just getting a women and girls team, though that's still a good step!). We also have some exciting new initiatives with their internal staff that are working towards a similar goal of improving gender equity within the staff and organisation more broadly through challenging current attitudes, behaviours and structures. Everyone deserves to enjoy all the benefits of sport participation, and to do so in an environment that is safe, respectful and inclusive. We all have a role to play in the this, but the key message is that we cannot passively solve this. We have to take action. #genderequity #genderbasedviolence https://lnkd.in/gyQg797u Victoria University

Week 3 of the #LearningSprintIOCYL focused on the importance of planning and project design to create a sustainable, equitable and inclusive sport solution. What does this look like? 🌲 Sustainable: Sustainability in a project encompasses more than the environmental impact of the program. It's critical for a project to be socially and financially sustainable to ensure the long-term impact and intended goals are achieved. 👫 Gender Equity: Inequity in Canadian sport still exists today at the grass-roots and leadership levels. Reducing barriers for women and girls through education and creating opportunities will increase engagement and promote participation in sport across different genders. 🌈 Inclusive: Creating an inclusive environment for all backgrounds is critical to the success of sport for social development. This includes but is not limited to using inclusive language, creating policies to protect specific groups, and identifying systemic racial barriers and gaps. An example of this is the Indigenous Sport Unit at Sport Canada who are doing great work to support Indigenous communities through funding for sport and recreation. 🔗 Info on Sport for Social Development in Indigenous Communities: https://lnkd.in/gQFDkzsw 🔗 Info on equity, diversity, and inclusion in Canadian Sport: https://lnkd.in/gaM87hgt @IOCYoungLeaders
