🛠 Improving Sidewalk Safety Throughout Upland 🛠 As part of the Sidewalk Repair Master Plan, our Public Works team is addressing minor trip-and-fall hazards around parks and City-owned properties. These efforts support California's Safe Routes to School initiative and ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)—helping create safe, accessible pathways for all residents and visitors. 🌳🚶♀️♿ Why Sidewalk Grinding? Sidewalk grinding is a practical and cost-effective maintenance solution for addressing minor height variations caused by factors like tree roots or soil shifts. This method not only improves safety but also extends the life of our sidewalks, offering a low-cost alternative to full replacement. We’re grateful for the patience of our community during these repairs and for those who continue to report hazards through the City’s app. This collaboration allows us to respond more quickly and efficiently, making Upland safer for everyone. 📲 See something? Say something! Hazards can be reported directly to Public Works through our app. Together, we’re enhancing accessibility and keeping Upland a community we’re all proud to call home. #UplandPublicWorks #ADACompliance #SafeRoutes #CommunityPartnership #TeamUpland #ThankYou

The Harrogate BID Street Ranger duo continue to deliver the vital service to ensure Harrogate remains a safe, clean and welcoming place for all. The reactive, pre-planned, operational, public facing service is critical in the delivery of the Harrogate BID Business Plan – and both Samuel Ashby and Darren Jevons have adapted to their roles in fantastic fashion. From planned deep cleans and reactive jet washes in high footfall areas, to litter picking and repairing street furniture in key locations, no two days are the same. Since taking on their new roles at the Business Improvement District (BID) six months ago, between them Samuel and Darren have recorded more than 500 different jobs, supporting BID Members and the local community to look and feel the best it can. Over the last three months, the team has recorded over 500 reactive tasks, covered more than 5,000 square metres with deep cleans in the town centre alongside many other daily jobs and interactions with businesses and the general public. New equipment allows the Street Rangers to store up to 1,000 litres of water, which can be heated up to 100 degrees and used as a steam cleaner to remove dirt, grime and other tricky materials, such as chewing gum and moss, to keep the town looking the best it can all year round. The team have offered a £40,000 return on investment to BID Member businesses over the last three months, carrying out jobs that would otherwise have to be contracted in without the Street Ranger service.
