When working in areas of seismic, the raised access floor may require bracing. As you can see in this picture, this is a "quad-brace" laterally retaining the pedestal in the event of movement. Glue is super important in a shingle. It adheres the two shingle plies together (laminate bonds), helps prevent shingle uplift from high winds (wind seals), and keeps out wind-blown rain (rain seals).
