Looking at the statues made by the ancient Egyptians makes one wonder and amazed at the precision in the formation and manufacturing that high-tech manufacturing equipment is almost unable to reach. The question that comes to my mind whenever I look at this precision in the formation is: How did they achieve this and what did they use? And every time I do not find an answer to my question.

The 13th VDMA China Mechanical Engineering Summit 2024 came to an end and what a show up it has been. Almost 150 executives, members and partners joining the conference today. The outlook is very challenging and many stones are lying on the way that are making the overall business situation difficult for VDMA members. Price competition, China going global, tariff wars and other challenges are today’s reality. However, there are also opportunities that we can grasp if we are willing to address them and change also our own ways- especially at home in Germany and Europe. Our members in China are facing the reality and are eagerly working on becoming more efficient in order to stay competitive in China and in the world. 🚀 As one of the biggest steel producers in the world, Italy plays a strategic role in the steel industry, and works with the EU to enable a #NetZero economy by driving #GreenSteel production. Recent funding from the Italian Ministry of Economic Development and Regione Lombardia, allowed us to partner with ORI Martin Group, an Italian company producing special steels for automotive and mechanical engineering, on a key lighthouse project tasked with making steelmaking smarter, more resilient, and more sustainable.   🦾 The resulting Lighthouse Acciaio 4.0, one of four lighthouse projects selected by the Italian Smart Factory Cluster (Cluster Fabbrica Intelligente - CFI) in 2019, is the first model of massive application of the 4th Industrial Revolution’s most innovative technologies. Together with ORI Martin, we developed a Cyber Physical Factory that, thanks to the enabling technologies of Industry 4.0, produced superior quality steel from ferrous scrap, boosted plant efficiency, and reduced accidents by monitoring human presence in hazardous areas or employing robots in potentially dangerous operations.   “The lighthouse project is a beacon of innovation,” stated Maurizio Zanforlin, R&D Director, ORI Martin. “Collaborating with our technological partner Tenova, we integrated cutting-edge Industry 4.0 technologies into heavy manufacturing, propelling us forward in the production of high-quality steel for automotive and mechanical sectors.” “Through the digital infrastructure’s interfaces, there was effective supervision of the entire plant, making it an excellent example of a cyber physical factory,” commented Marco Longobardo, Technology Sales Manager at Tenova.    Read all about our Lighthouse project in most recent #MetalsInsights article, authored by Nicolò Giso, here 👉 https://lnkd.in/dGG_Asc7
