The ships will all be delivered by September 2024, with the first arriving in summer. X-Press Feeders recently announced the launch of a green corridor which the vessels will serve, using green methanol on two routes: Rotterdam-Antwerp Bruges-Riga-Klaipeda-Rotterdam and Rotterdam-Antwerp Bruges-Helsinki-Tallinn-Kotka. The services will begin in the third quarter 2024. In July I will have been with Trelleborg Marine & Infrastructure for 12 years. In July 2012 on arrival I was given the job of leading a team to develop a new ship shore link for the emerging LNG Marine Fuel market. The LNG industry wanted to ensure their excellent safety record was maintained. The team I was privileged to lead were brilliant. They didn't just want to make a smaller version of the ship shore links the company was famous for. This was a new market segment with different operational drivers. Something different was needed. They wanted to fully understand the customer needs and how to address those needs. But safety, as always, had to be paramount. In September 2012 we took the Universal Safety Link (USL) prototype to Gastech, London. No one was quite sure how or when this new market would begin to grow but everyone agreed that what we had delivered to the market was exactly what was needed. As the attached article clearly demonstrates the growth of LNG as a marine fuel has taken off. And Trelleborg is proud to have been there from the start, working with the pioneers driving the emissions reduction and safety agenda right up to the present day growth. In September 2024 Trelleborg will be taking the USL8810 to Gastech, Houston. But this time not as a prototype. But as an industry standard. Because that's what we do at Trelleborg. We set the standard. Whether that's ship shore links, docking and mooring systems, berthing aid systems, marine fenders or hoses and couplings. We lead from the front. With innovation, technology, people and service. #trelleborg #lng #lngbunkering #innovation #sgmf #gastech

A joint study led by GTT (Gaztransport & Technigaz) Group, Lloyd's Register, and Shell International Trading and Shipping Company Limited has concluded that inspection intervals for LNG carrier membrane tanks could be safely extended with the aid of monitoring technology and predictive maintenance. According to the International Gas Carriers (IGC) Code and IACS UR Z16 rules, LNG carrier cargo tanks must undergo internal inspections every five years. However, this study investigated the possibility of extending this interval within the framework of an alternative survey plan (ASP), taking into account the associated risk profile. Crowley has proudly taken delivery of the LNG bunker barge Progress, the largest vessel of its kind to comply with the U.S. Jones Act. Constructed at Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, the Progress is set to enhance cleaner energy access for ship operators at the Port of Savannah, Georgia, following its final commissioning this month. In a strategic move to support the transition to cleaner marine fuels, Shell NA LNG, LLC (Shell) has entered into a long-term agreement with Crowley to operate the barge. This partnership aims to provide an additional fueling location for LNG-powered ships, reinforcing the industry’s commitment to sustainability. https://lnkd.in/ekXtpqNW #Maritime #Sustainability #LNG #ShippingIndustry #Innovation #Crowley #Fincantieri #CleanEnergy #MarineFuel #SustainableShipping #GreenTech #EnergyTransition

With the appetite for LNG bunkering vessels on the rise, will there be enough of these ships available in the years to come to meet demand? Speaking at the LNG Bunkering & Future Fuel Global Summit 2024 in May, DNV Maritime Advisory Principal Consultant, Martin Christian Wold, highlighted that while the fleet of vessels fit for bunkering is increasing, it may not be growing fast enough. He also discussed the critical supply/demand imbalance, saying: “We estimate that LNG bunkering was about 1% of the global marine fuel market in 2023, and it is growing rapidly. We believe it will grow by 400% to reach 11M tonnes of consumption by 2026." Read more in Riviera Maritime Media Ltd: https://lnkd.in/gFZVYtg7 #Maritime #Bunker #LNG

SEA-LNG COO Steve Esau was recently interviewed by Manifold Times, to discuss LNG’s role in shipping’s industry-wide effort to decarbonise. In the article, Steve clears up the misconceptions around LNG, its emissions credentials and methane slip, as well as highlighting some grey areas on other alternative fuel pathways. As reported by Manifold Times, Steve clarified that all other alternative marine fuels have worse well-to-wake emissions when compared to LNG on an even playing field. This underlines the need to compare apples with apples when comparing alternate fuels. Uniquely, fossil LNG offers significant greenhouse gas emissions reduction when used as a marine fuel compared with VLSFO – up to 23% on a full lifecycle basis according to an independent study by Sphera. Commercially LNG and the pathway to zero-emissions it enables makes sense. LNG offers the lowest cost of compliance with European and International Maritime Organization regulations. As a viable low carbon bunker fuel, LNG is clearly leading the way. There is a strong, and growing, pipeline of LNG fueled newbuilds, requiring an estimated 30m tons of LNG bunkering per year by 2040. The US needs the infrastructure to supply these vessels. This is not a ‘nice to have,’ this is a strategic imperative. The global shipping fleet is changing and we must be leader this transition. https://lnkd.in/gt9bZubc

Take a look at this interesting article from Riviera, which dives into an important question: is it the right time for us to start thinking about standardizing LNG bunker vessels? The article examines the progress of LNG as a marine fuel but also highlights the challenges involved with the journey to standardization.
Is it time to consider the standardisation of LNG bunker vessels?
