Halloween is behind us, and we're dealing with the Christmas rush now! 🎃But back on Halloween night, the team were called to one of Glasgow's busiest city-centre pubs and had to play detective, tracking down the cause of some unexpected flooding. No problem for our lads, they found the leak, fixed the problem and made sure this pub had no further issues. Well done team!

Career Development vs Parenting Responsibility In modern UK, many women – and even some men – are still faced with the tough decision of giving up or pausing their careers to care for their young children. This is largely due to the soaring costs of childcare, which often makes it impractical for both parents to continue working. For many, the burden of these fees outweighs the benefits of career advancement, forcing families to make sacrifices in personal and professional development. As someone leading parents balancing both parenting, health and professional growth, I’m incredibly thankful for our virtual office at St John's Innovation Centre Ltd 🌍 Being part of a global community surrounded by exceptional business and STEAM talents has provided us with opportunities to stay connected, continue learning, and contribute to meaningful work—all while managing the demands/joy 😊of family life. Having access to such a inclusive environment makes the journey a little easier. It’s crucial that we continue to push for more affordable childcare solutions, but in the meantime, being part of spaces that weclome families and value career development is invaluable. Thank you for having 10 of us (working parents and children) last week in the relaxing BBQ. We all enjoyed it very much. #WomenInBusiness #ParentingAndCareers #WorkLifeBalance #StJohnsInnovationCentre #STEAM #STEM #office #worklifebalance #Affordable #flexbility #careers #SDGMamaMe #SDG3, #SDG8 #SDG9 #SDG10 #SDG11
Last week, it was wonderful to see our community gather for our late summer BBQ. We welcomed over 150 tenant members, colleagues, friends, families and dogs! The evening included cocktails, sizzlingly good food and live music from Cambridge band ‘Sugarfoot’, all set in our beautiful SJIC gardens. #SJIC #Cambridge #Community #BBQ

What a powerful conversation this was to hear today from 3 highly esteemed animal campaigners and spreading the word about Helping Rhinos. Key take aways: 1. Changing a belief system that is 10’s of thousands of years is not going to happen overnight. But if a talk like today happens and even one person talks to another about it and that person tells someone….then eventually, 10 people will know about it. 2. We need to start using language that references animal rights more than animal welfare. 3. These are hard to hear conversations but must happen if change will even be contemplated. There are true heros out there who bear witness to, advocate for, change policies and legislation to not only save vulnerable animals but the lives of humans and the whole ecosystem - from worms and bugs in the soil to leaves at the top of a forest canopy and everything in between. Thank you Dr Marc Abraham OBE for facilitating this conversation 💚 #helpingtherhinos
EVENT: Can't wait to interview the one & only Peter Egan this Sun at Daltons Bar, below The Brighton Zip, in aid of Helping Rhinos! Loads of family fun stuff going on all day for #WorldRhinoDay to protect these vulnerable creatures. More: https://lnkd.in/e8mfWv5K #BrightonRhinoTrail

It’s no secret that I am a huge cheerleader for businesses in the Hutt, and retail plays a significant role in that. Today, I am excited to announce the launch of Hutt City Council's new programme aimed at bolstering retail safety and addressing the increasing instances of crime and anti-social behaviour in our city. In a significant move to support our retail sector, we have introduced the Kia Haumaru – Safer Centres Programme. Launched in July 2024, this initiative is designed to enhance staff skills and improve safety measures for retail businesses across Lower Hutt. Developed in collaboration with First Retail Group (FRG) and the New Zealand Police, the Kia Haumaru programme aims to improve the wellbeing and safety of retail staff and the general public. The programme offers free training to all customer-facing businesses in Lower Hutt, equipping them with the necessary skills and confidence to manage the risks associated with crime. Retail businesses across various sectors have been facing heightened challenges, including anti-social behaviour and theft. Additionally, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of vulnerable individuals in commercial areas, which businesses are keen to assist. The Kia Haumaru programme has been warmly received by these businesses as it aims to build capability, confidence, and guardianship, thereby reducing risks and enhancing responsiveness. This initiative ensures that Hutt City’s centres remain safe and welcoming places for visitors, workers, and residents. In addition to the training programme, the Council is introducing a Business Safety Support Fund, allocating $150,000 to help retail and hospitality businesses in Lower Hutt purchase essential safety equipment. This fund aims to provide businesses with the necessary tools to combat retail theft and anti-social behaviour, making their workplaces safer and more secure. Simple but effective measures such as safety mirrors, internal bollards, and CCTV cameras can play a crucial role in preventing theft and enhancing security. This funding initiative complements the Council’s substantial $3.5 million investment in the Long-Term Plan for a city-wide CCTV network, demonstrating a strong commitment to improving safety across Lower Hutt. 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐆𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐖𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠? 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐏𝐨𝐲𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐧'𝐬 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐟𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐁𝐢𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐈𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐞𝐬 I recently read about Cory Poynton, a 27-year-old who took it upon himself to clean filthy road signs in Warwickshire. His community spirit and initiative have earned him praise from over 3,500 people on Facebook. Yet, the council has asked him to stop due to safety concerns. This situation brings to light a broader issue: cuts to hygiene and sanitisation services are impacting communities. While safety is crucial, councils should find ways to support such positive actions rather than discourage them. At BD365 Clean Ltd, we believe in the importance of community-driven efforts and the need for proper support and training to ensure safety. Cory's dedication is a reminder of the impact individuals can make. Let’s push for better support and resources for community cleanliness initiatives. #CommunityHero #CleanSigns #HealthAndSafety #BD365Clean #SupportLocalEfforts https://lnkd.in/eXwEBQUX

True story… A church is right behind my building and normally the parking lot is like a ghost town. So on Thanksgiving I opened my door and the parking lot is packed and I heard all the hoopla but I couldn’t see. I didn’t know if they were speaking to me or greeting each other. 🤦🏾♀️ #yourlifeiscontent #columbussmallbiz #smallbusiness #smallbusinesssupport #businessownerlife #marketingbudgets #columbussocialmediamanager #twmarketingagency

I continue to be amazed at the amount of brands that sponsor recklessly irresponsible "contests" like this. A few years ago, "America's Favorite Chef" competition was sued for fraud because you needed to get your friends to buy votes to give you a leg up on the competition. Yet, "America's Favorite Pet" which is being sponsored by KONG Company, Love, Nala, Furbabysocks and Crown And Paw for this year with actor Eric Stonestreet also pitching in. The con here, I mean carrot, is that the contests should "Picture your best pal on the cover of Modern Dog or Modern Cat! Not only will they gain super-star status, but their story will be shared in a special 2-page feature that showcases their unique personality and charm. It's time for your furball to steal the spotlight and show the world what makes them truly one-of-a-kind!" Um, first of all, I looked at every issue of Modern Dog Magazine and Modern Cat Magazine with not a single "winner" issue mentioning that America's Favorite Pet on the cover was PAID FOR. Considering they sell subscriptions, that is a violation of the law. That's fraud one. Fraud two is that contestants' "friends" will have to spend a lot of money buying votes for the contestant to win. What kind of contest requires that money be spent? A CON ARTIST ONE! While I don't think that Modern Dog or Cat Magazines are doing anything wrong per se, just being associated with a "contest"like this smacks of everything wrong in publishing right now. It amazes me that people continue to fall for this nonsense, but more importantly that brands continue to be conned into spending money they don't have for absurdly broken programming like this. #fail #pets #marketing #business #truth
One precious pup and one fine feline will take home $10,000 and be featured on the covers of Modern Cat and Modern Dog.

This is why fire safety training is crucial for DS and this is why properly run and delivered DS courses is also crucial!

Immensely proud of the life saving actions of four of our Door Supervisors last night whilst working at their regular venues in Portsmouth. After first smelling smoke from a set of Victorian era buildings around 80 meters from their venues, they then investigated during a torrential downpour and found several sets of flats above commercial premises that they could not raise via doorbells or banging on doors. They took the decision to make entry to the sets of flats and quickly raised the alarm in each block and evacuated the residents. Several of these residents were offered shelter in the venues, whilst the Fire Service tackled the significant blaze that burst through the roof shortly after the last resident made it safely from the buildings. It appears that a significant cannabis factory set up in one of the roof spaces caused the blaze. Thankfully all of the team members involved escaped unharmed and returned to their venues to complete the remainder of their shifts. Simply outstanding bravery and dedication to the community folks. Thank you! #uksecurity #firerescue #bravery #dedication #siadoorsupervisor #notjustabouncer
