‘Slowing the Flow’ It is interesting to see the different methods used to tackle flooding and wastewater discharge, especially when considered together... Southern Water is taking a proactive approach to flood prevention by offering residents in Binstead, Isle of Wight, £75 per square meter to replace concrete and paved driveways with permeable alternatives like gravel. What is the #goal? To slow down the flow surface water due to rainfall entering the piped network. This reduces flooding risks and prevents the drainage system from becoming overwhelmed. By increasing infiltration opportunities, this allows rainwater to soak into the ground rather than overwhelming the drainage system. This approach also helps reduce reliance on storm overflows, which are increasingly triggered by heavy rainfall. Could this be the start of a trend across the UK? https://lnkd.in/gpKCi6-V More intense rainfall is what happens when our atmosphere warms. The loss of water supply has also occurred in Australia in recent times - Eg Cyclone Jasper in FNQ, and the rain event that caused the Lismore flooding. Disasters such as this are increasing in frequency, and we need to build resilience for when they do. We will see more of this type of thing in the future.
A Deluge of Rain Poured Out of the Heavens. But There’s Still No Drinking Water.

The recent snow is likely to melt off very quickly in the next day or two due to warm temperatures and the possibility of limited rain. Widespread flooding is not expected, but we are likely to isolated areas with water causing issues. This is typically caused by the water being blocked from going where it is supposed to be and going where it is a problem. Property owners are encouraged to ensure ditches and culverts are clear of debris. Please check your property and monitor it while the snow melts so issues can be addressed when they start. Our goal with spring snow events is to keep the water flowing when it melts!
