Very insightful and data-rich review of Southeast Asia. There is a lot of growth, change, and transformation; however, as you will learn, it is not homogeneous besides maybe Singapore. ASEAN is not the next China or India, as some might claim. It's an exciting region with real potential — a diamond in the making, but you must polish it your way. What is homogeneous is the desire for education and to strive for further studies; however, affordability and access remain challenges for many. #highereducation #asean #access eduALTO | Speechsquare

As we approach our upcoming 🌏 #AsiaSpringTour, starting on April 10th, we are taking a closer look at the #AsianHigherEducationLandscape. The higher education sector in this region is being shaped by several key forces: 👉 Increased regional student mobility, especially within Southeast Asia. 👉 Growth of transnational education through partnerships, branch campuses and online learning. 👉 New recruitment strategies implemented by major destinations like Japan and Singapore. 👉 Accelerated use of education technologies for program delivery and administration. 👉 Demographic changes in giant markets like China and India. By closely 📊 monitoring policy shifts, forming strategic partnerships, and deploying innovative program models and technologies, universities can effectively recruit and retain Asian students. Internationalization is a pending topic for most Asian universities. However, hope is on the horizon, with Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, and Taiwan setting ambitious goals to increase the international student population: - Japan: 400,000 by 2033 (as of May 2023: ~280,000) - Malaysia: 250,000 by 2025 (as of May 2023: ~150,000) - Taiwan: 320,000 by 2030 (as of May 2023: ~120,000) - South Korea: 300,000 by 2027 (as of May 2023: ~205,000) These initiatives are mostly driven by the governments easing critical policies and enabling: 1️⃣ The Ability to work while studying (generating additional income to sustain their lifestyle) 2️⃣ More generous post-graduation visa types 3️⃣ Pathways to Residency 4️⃣ Generous scholarship programs Who are the uptakers? Students from Asia are now compelled by those opportunities, led by students from China and Vietnam. Interesting trivia: Many Vietnamese students opt to study in Asia instead of the West. For example, South Korea enrolls more Vietnamese students than Canada (17,175) and the US (21,900) combined. How are universities reacting? Some are concerned about the decreased language requirements potentially impacting the quality of education. Though the influx of international students is great, managing a diverse student body comes with expectations and challenges. Attracting Asian students is fantastic; however, to become a truly global study destination, which is one of South Korea's declared aims, means recruiting in Africa, Europe, and North and South America. Clearly, it's a pending topic for now. eduALTO | ICEF | Speechsquare #intled #highered #asia

Internationalization is no longer just a goal for educational institutions—it’s a necessity. It’s not just about partnerships or attracting foreign students. True internationalization means creating education systems that equip learners with global competencies at the core of their skillsets. This goes beyond surface-level efforts and requires a more integrated, thoughtful approach. Where to start? * Develop expertise at home, it enables real exchange. * Integrate global perspectives into every aspect of learning, not just as an add-on. * Prioritize long-term partnerships that drive innovation and knowledge exchange It’s time we recognize the importance of internationalization in achieving excellence in higher education. After all, global exposure doesn’t always require a passport and hefty budget. I had the privilege of joining a dynamic discussion with representatives from top institutions at Association Of Indian Universities. Thanks to Dr. Pankaj Mittal General Secretary, AIU for facilitating and guiding such a well crafted, day-long brainstorming session. My thoughts were fed well ! Digital education looks different across the globe—and it's shaping the future in unexpected ways! From the U.S.'s booming online learning market to South Korea’s tech-savvy, yet traditional approach, each country is tackling digital education on its own terms. 💡 But here’s the real question: Can we create a global standard where everyone benefits? In India and Malaysia, digital platforms are opening doors to underserved communities, while Africa is catching up fast, despite infrastructure challenges. The future of education? It’s digital, but it won’t be the same for everyone. The challenge is making sure we leave no one behind. Because at the end of the day, education is only as powerful as the access it provides. #digitaleducation #digitalskills
