Big #EV automakers will lead to industry consolidation. "The #Biden administration finalized rules that will effectively force automakers to make a majority of new passenger cars and light trucks sold in the U.S. all-electric or hybrids by 2032. E.V.s make up just 7.6 percent of new U.S. car sales today." #Trump will also want new #EV jobs, despite opposition by #labor unions who fear automated factories. #California will be the leading market so automakers will want factories nearby. Biden Administration Tightens Mileage Standards to Buoy E.V.s New Rule Requires 65 MPG by 2031 The Biden administration announced new vehicle fuel mileage standards on Friday, aiming to transform the American auto market towards electric vehicles (E.V.s). By 2031, automakers must achieve an average of 65 miles per gallon across all models, reports The NY Times. Pushing for Electric Vehicles This new regulation, alongside other measures, is part of a broader strategy to reduce pollution from vehicles. The Environmental Protection Agency (E.P.A.) has also imposed strict tailpipe pollution limits, targeting that most new cars and light trucks sold in the U.S. be all-electric or hybrids by 2032. California's emission standards are controversial not only because they were written for the Golden state, but also because they would dictate a requirement for electric car sales in states that implement them. Under a ruleset called Advanced Clean Cars II that would take effect in 2025, 35% of new car sales in any state with CARB standards must be electric in model year 2026, with the goal of 100% in 2035.

The U.S. House of Representatives has passed House Joint Resolution 136, which aims to eliminate the EPA’s newly finalized auto emissions regulations for model year 2027 and beyond. If approved by the Senate, this resolution would roll back stricter fuel economy standards for passenger cars and light trucks, impacting both consumers and the automotive repair industry. As the debate moves forward, key industry players are keeping a close eye on potential effects on EV adoption and fuel savings. #USHouseOfReps #AutoIndustry #AutomotiveRepair

The EPA has approved California’s mandate to phase out gasoline-only car sales by 2035, requiring 80% of new vehicles to be electric and 20% plug-in hybrids. This bold move, praised by Governor Gavin Newsom, aligns with California’s clean energy goals and has been adopted by 11 other states. However, automakers warn of economic and logistical challenges, while legal battles loom. California also plans to enforce stricter emissions rules for heavy-duty vehicles, pushing ahead despite opposition from automakers and federal policy uncertainties. #California #EV #EPA

Bouncing off Gill Nowell on this one as I feel quite strongly about it… ❤️🔌🚗⚡️ Robert Forrester - chief executive of Vertu Motors said in the interview Gill has posted - “Demand or adoption of EVs is not going anywhere near as fast as the regulators thought would happen,” he said, citing higher prices and gaps in the charger network” I totally agree but, IMHO the single biggest problem is that only <50% of domestic properties in the UK can have a home charger. It’s a known fact that over 90% of early adopters have a home wallbox, and for me, this tells us everything we need to know really. Could we assume the other 10% are fleet, rental, etc? Enabling people to be able to charge at home is the absolute key blocker for EV adoption. This is where the government need to support further IMO. Some homes can be enabled but, there is a cost. I’m one of these, my home installation was over £4K, which was ‘mates rates’ and with me helping with the DNO ‘contestable’ work. For where we can’t fix home charging for an EV adopter, then we need decent destination charging in towns and villages (not just cities) and….7 kw charging at a supermarket with a 2 hour time limit, to tick the ‘planning box’…is not it. 22 kW AC or 20-25 kW DC (or 50 kW duel outlet) should be the minimum standard in locations where people can charge, while being able to use their time efficiently (shopping, Cinema, country parks, cafes, restaurants, etc.) We should also being utilising key infrastructure, already in place, to support ‘out of hours’ charging. So by this I mean the car parks of schools, village halls, council offices, parks, etc. this would also create a revenue stream, if done correctly. 7 kW is fine for ⬆️ and any onstreet charging but, this is a post code lottery, so needs further support. Kerbo Charge type solutions are massively helping solve this issue, where they are approved and/or can be deployed. I’ve been saying this for nearly two decades and to me, it’s as plan as the 👃 on my face….would ❤️ to hear your thoughts though as always 🙌🏽
The Zero Emission Vehicle Mandate is the mechanism that underpins ‘the 2030 date’. It requires car manufacturers to produce a certain percentage of electric vehicles - 22% by end of 2024, ramping up to 100% in 2035. Ultimately, we need to decarbonise road transport. We’re currently on track to see 8-10 million #EVs on UK roads by 2030. 📈 Edit: According to the Climate Change Committee*, in order to meet net zero, we need 55% of all passenger vehicles and vans in the UK to be electric by 2032. That’s 23.2 million EVs by 2032, rising to 49 million (100%) by 2050. If anyone has any more recent data on this, I’d love to see it. What are your thoughts on the shift back to 2030 for the Ban on New Fossil Fuel Vehicles? Personally, I don't foresee any major issues. Based on conversations with potential clients, it seems that LCV vehicles might pose a challenge. I advocate for businesses to consider trialing an LCV for 6 to 12 months to gather valuable feedback. Interested in discussing your fleet and challenges? Feel free to reach out to me via DM. Read more about the ban here: https://lnkd.in/d8hGRFdz
