🚀 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗻: 𝗜𝘀 𝗜𝘁 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗮𝗰𝗲? This week, I had some thought-provoking conversations about 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗽𝘀—and the numbers are jaw-dropping: 💡 80% of MedTech startups 𝑑𝑜𝑛’𝑡 survive past 𝟭𝟬 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀. 💡 93% of small businesses (500 employees or less) in the U.S. make less than $1M. 💡 Only 4% of that remaining 7% cross the $10M mark. 💡 The average time to commercial success? 𝟭𝟬 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀. While the goal is to 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝘀𝘁 the 20% success rate of MedTech startups in the U.S., it begs the question: Should we be reducing the number of companies attempting this journey in the first place? 🤔 Nobody likes hearing their baby is “ugly.” But if it takes 10 years to commercialise, that gives you maybe 3-4 attempts in your entire career. So, why not 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁 and pivot, rather than sink millions into a project destined to fall flat?
