Once upon a time, there was a king who had ten wild dogs. He used the dogs to torture anyone who disobeyed him or made a mistake. One day a servant made a decision that angered the king. The king decreed that the servant would be thrown to the dogs. Upon hearing this, the servant pleaded: “Sire, I have served you well for ten years. In recognition of my service, I ask that you hold off on this order for just 10 days.” The king agreed. The servant went to the guard who looked after the dogs and offered to take on his role for the next ten days. The guard was happy to have less work and agreed. For the next 10 days, the servant fed the dogs, bathed them, and generally looked after their wellbeing. He rewarded them for their good behavior. At the end of the 10 days, the king proceeded with his decision that the servant was to be thrown to the dogs. When the dogs saw the servant, they ran to him and began to lick him profusely. The king was baffled at what he saw. “What has happened to my dogs,” he barked (pun intended). The servant replied, “Sire, I served these dogs for just ten days and every one of them remembered my commitment and diligence. Yet I served you for ten whole years and you forgot all that I contributed when I made one mistake. I was reminded of this story this past week as I worked with a leadership team to review the importance of trust in their respective roles and departments, and how essential that trust is to the success of the organization overall. More specifically, we talked about the damage caused when there is a breakdown of trust and how to go about rebuilding that trust. As business owners, executives, team leads, and front-line managers, we tend to forget the good things our colleagues and direct reports deliver, and instead remember only the mistakes. Accenture Strategy defines trust as “a consistent experience of competence, integrity, honesty, transparency, commitment, purpose and familiarity. Trust not only defines the quality and sustainability of a company’s relationships with its stakeholders, it builds shared value.” At #D3LearningSolutions, we too recognize the importance of trust at every level of the organization. We believe that trust significantly influences your bottom line and competitiveness and needs to be a core element of your business strategy. We work with organizations to define a strategy and create a culture that embraces trust. Celebrate core values Week -Trust Week celebration with the team. Trust is the foundation of all meaningful relationships, whether personal or professional. It is built through consistent actions, transparency, and reliability. When trust is established, it fosters a sense of safety and security, enabling open communication and collaboration. However, trust is fragile and can be easily damaged by dishonesty, inconsistency, or betrayal. Rebuilding trust requires time, effort, and a commitment to demonstrating trustworthy behavior. Ultimately, trust is not just given; it is earned through actions that align with promises and values.

It’s disheartening to see that many companies, including EY, often refuse to acknowledge the presence of toxic individuals and harmful work environments. Despite numerous complaints about their culture, these organizations frequently choose to silence the victims instead of addressing the issues, promoting those who contribute to a negative atmosphere to maintain a facade of integrity. The silence among employees is troubling; many choose not to speak out for their colleagues, even anonymously, due to a lack of empathy and a focus on self-preservation. When faced with injustice themselves, they seek accountability, highlighting a troubling cycle of indifference. Ultimately, the consequences of such actions will catch up with those who perpetuate harm, as karma has a way of balancing the scales. #ToxicWorkplace #CorporateCulture #EmployeeWellbeing #WorkplaceJustice #SpeakUp #AccountabilityMatters #CultureChange #EmpathyInWorkplace #SilenceIsComplicity #IntegrityInBusiness #SupportYourColleagues #EndWorkplaceHarassment #Karma #WorkplaceSafety #MentalHealthAwareness #LeadershipResponsibility #OrganizationalChange #VictimSupport #WorkplaceEthics #EmpowerEmployees
