Let’s address the elephant in the room. I currently work at EY and have been part of the corporate world since quite sometime. The recent news about my colleague has sparked conversations and what we can call a "CORPORATE SLAVERY ME-TOO MOVEMENT" Many who have experienced corporate life are coming forward to share their personal stories, and it's scary to realize that nearly everyone has a story of their own. Yes, without a doubt, this is a real problem. We mention it daily to our families and friends—every time we miss a call, a special occasion, our favourite festival, it comes up. These frustrations occur regularly, and it feels like a constant part of our lives. JAB JAB PAAP KA GHADA BADH JATA HAI, TAB TAB WO TOOT JATA HAI AUR EK BADLAV KI ZAROORAT HOTI HAI. This issue isn't exclusive to EY. It's about the broader corporate culture, which is so ingrained that I believe this incident will NOT CHANGE ANYTHING. People will talk about it for a couple of days, and then it will be forgotten. What we need is something transformative. We need stricter laws and court trials to instill fear in managers who prioritize things like a cricket match over their team's well-being. While we have downward feedback mechanisms, it’s equally crucial to have upward feedback so employees can evaluate their superiors. In corporate life, revenue and numbers often become the ultimate goal, but the real priority should be to enhance stakeholder value, and employees are key stakeholders. We have strict login times, yet no one enforces log-off times. We’re frequently asked to work late and on holidays to meet client deadlines, but rarely are we fairly compensated for that extra time. In the end, we lose our health, our personal lives, our relationships, and sometimes our peace of mind, leading to depression, hospital stays, sleepless nights, and an untimely, unpeaceful death. This is alarming and Change is urgently needed. #SayNOtoSlavery #PrioritizeLife
