Companies lack transparency in their hiring process. (4 common claims I frequently hear from HR): ▶️ "We only hire the best talent" Yet they hire someone's kid or unqualified applicants. ▶️ "Fit is most important" But what exactly defines 'fit'? Is it skills, attitude, or abilities? ▶️ "There is no diverse talent" Yet, they screen out diverse talent because they don't have 'industry experience'. ▶️ "We take time to find the best people" But occasionally resort to hiring out of desperation after interviewing only 10 candidates in 6 months. It's time for companies and HR professionals to align their actions with the market, focus on their values, and build equity and transparency into the hiring process. 💯💯💯 Recruiting metrics are incredibly nuanced, which is why it’s so important to include folks with both functional recruiting expertise and operational/tools expertise in analysis. I think of time to hire as a speedometer. It can only tell you how fast you’re moving, but nothing about the direction you are moving in, or most importantly the final destination you seek to reach. It measures overall process efficiency, NOT effectiveness. The metric can look great at face value, but how much of that time is spent waiting for feedback? Or in post interview negotiations? There is an incredible blend of art and science when working with people data and an incredible amount of stories to be told through it. But it’s important to make sure the story you focus on is in fact the right one; the one which when analyzed, leads to tangible improvements for your recruiting practices. We can only harness the true value of these metrics through solid “input in” and by considering this quantitative data holistically within the specific context of the qualitative experiences of recruiting teams, candidates, hiring managers and leaders.

Time to Hire doesn’t exist... 🤯 Ok that’s maybe a bit hyperbolic, but we often talk about "Time to Hire" as the golden metric in Talent Acquisition. But here’s the thing – it’s not one-size-fits-all. Different teams measure it from different points in the hiring process, which means it can be a lot less clear-cut than we think. So, what should we be tracking instead? 🤔 🟣 Time to approve – From role creation on the system until it gets the green light. 🟠 Time to source – From approval until the successful candidate applies or is attached to the role. 🟡 Time to offer – That period from the role's approval to the moment we extend the offer. 🟢 Time to start – From role approval to the new hire’s first day with the team. 🦄 Breaking it down this way gives us a clearer picture of where bottlenecks are and where we can refine our strategies to make hiring more efficient. *Candidates are still running a marathon* 🏃♂️ It’s surprising how some companies expect so much from job candidates these days. Imagine having to go through six stages and meet 15 different people just for one position! It’s almost like having a full-time job just trying to get the actual job. ❌ Such lengthy processes can be daunting and often impractical, especially for those already employed or with other commitments. This could discourage talented candidates who might decide it’s not worth the effort, potentially causing companies to miss out on great hires. 😴 While thorough vetting helps ensure a good fit, companies need to balance their needs with respect for candidates' time. That’s where we come in!
