Today at Women's College Hospital in Toronto, I was pleased to join Minister Hon. Mark Holland, PC, MP, colleagues from Health Canada | Santé Canada and Abhi Kalra from Canada Health Infoway, along with Dr. Kathleen Ross and Dr. Michael Green, to celebrate new legislation to prohibit data blocking. This announcement includes an introduction of Bill C-72 the Connected Care for Canadians Act. This legislation comes at a critical moment in time, providing necessary updates to the way in which health data is seamlessly shared, further empowering patients and clinicians alike. It is a testament to many years of work and collaboration of health system partners, many of whom have long advocated for such advancements. A shift forward in data portability regulations and standards further demonstrates the advancement of the Shared pan-Canadian Interoperability Roadmap, outlining the need to ease data portability, improve provider access to patient data and allowing patients to access their own health record. Together, these changes will improve care coordination and collaboration, and strengthen a patient-centric approach to care. I’m looking forward to seeing these advancements evolve, and the role that Canada Health Infoway will play in continuing to support and further sustain these changes now and into the future. https://lnkd.in/gX_X7W8H
This is an important milestone for the healthcare system in Canada. The introduction of Bill C-72 and the efforts to ease data portability will undoubtedly have a significant impact on patient care and collaboration among healthcare providers. Looking forward to the positive changes this will bring for both patients and clinicians. How do you foresee these changes shaping the future of healthcare across the country?

7moGood to see patients will have access to their records. Next let’s stop data blocking and compel vendors to allow APIs to connect with their systems.
