🌟 Resilience Spotlight: Meryl Streep’s Climb to the Summit 🌟 Hey everyone! Today, let’s take a moment to draw some powerful inspiration from the incredible Meryl Streep. Imagine the scene: she’s just faced a harsh rejection from an audition for King Kong, told she was too "ugly" for the role. 😲 But did that stop her? Absolutely not! Like facing a steep cliff edge in our own climbs, Meryl didn’t let that harsh wind push her off her path. Instead, she anchored herself with self-belief, faced the adversity, and responded, “I'm sorry you think I'm too ugly for your movie but yours is just an opinion out of thousands.” Now, with 18 Oscar nominations under her belt, Meryl Streep stands on the peak of her career, showing us all the view from the top, achieved through perseverance and unwavering self-belief. 🏆 Let her story be a reminder to all of us: when someone tells you "no," or tries to derail your journey, remember it's just a single gust in the grand weather system of opinions! Please share your inspirational story or share who inspires you and why. #Resilience #Empowerment #MerylStreep #NeverGiveUp #TheWellbeingSherpa #positivethinking #mindset #wellbeing ✨

📢📢📢 #MondayMusings During the recent Euros Tournament, Gareth Southgate, received a lot of criticism for his decisions. Now, whether you agree with his choices or not, it's clear that he's been under an immense amount of pressure. (that's all for the football link Michelle Hartley FCIPD I promise!!) It's easy to sit on the outside and criticise someone’s actions, isn’t it? We've all done it. But how often do we truly understand what it’s like to be in their shoes? Being in a position of leadership or responsibility comes with its own set of challenges and pressures often invisible to those on the outside. Instead of jumping to conclusions and criticising, what if we approached these situations with a little more curiosity? What if we tried to understand the complexities and pressures that come with those roles? By being curious we can create a more supportive and empathetic environment. Maybe we should take a moment to step back and ask, 'What might this person be going through? What pressures are they facing right now?' A little curiosity can go a long way in building understanding and compassion...What do you think? Let me know in the comments. Have a great week, and Happy Monday! #MondayMusings #Human #Leadership #Curiosity

🤩 #NeverMeetYourHeroes - Pt 3 #BluesBrothers 🎸 🎵 Recently I met a couple of icons in Jake and Elwood Blues. 80s #Icons who knew a thing or two about #leadership. From the #film came the #iconic phrase “We’re putting the band back together” But what does this signify and mean? 🤔 Well in my mind, it means the brothers had a group of people they trusted to deliver their #intent. 💪 #Trust is one of the corner stones of leadership, especially in the realm of mission command, or as L. David Marquet might put it “pushing decision to knowledge” Now we will have all worked with people we trust implicitly and who we would happily work with again; this trust is forged through shared experiences of both #success and #failure but ultimately it is who are you happy to work with and know you can trust them. There is also a key tennent of them being better than you in some way. Google has a well know hiring principle of “hiring only people better than you” Look at the Blues Brothers’ Band, the brothers could not do all roles that the members could: They were not better singers than Mrs Murphy (Aretha Franklin) or the Reverend (James Brown) 🎤 They could not play the better than ‘Blue Lou’ (Lou Marini)🎷 They couldn’t play the guitar as well as The Colonel (Steve Cropper) 🎸 So, if I was Elwood and was getting the band back, who would I want to work with again, well here is my list of 4 (I asked my boys to give me a number and they said 4, so there you go!!): Luke Parker MSc CEng FInstRE David Thomas MBA BSc (Hons) Tom G. Gary Stubbs CMgr FCMI There are many more who I have worked with who would make the list were it longer. So, if you were Elwood who would be in your band? #ThoughtLeadership #ThoughtOfTheDay #TeamLeadership #TeamCollaboration #Collaboration #Recognition

💭 Outsmart the System by Becoming a Legend “You wanna outsmart the CIA, it’s easy, you gotta get out there and make yourself a legend. Gandhi, Freddie Mercury, Maria Carlos, Oprah Winfrey—when you’re a legend, you’re unkillable.” What does it take to truly outsmart the system? It’s not just about intelligence or tactics—it’s about becoming a force so iconic that your legacy can’t be erased. Legends aren’t just remembered; they are revered. From Gandhi to Freddie Mercury to Oprah Winfrey, these figures didn’t just follow the rules—they created their own path, shaping the world in ways that continue to influence generations. Being a legend means being unassailable. You’re no longer just part of the system; you shape it. When you take control of your narrative and elevate your influence to extraordinary heights, you become unstoppable. 🔑 The Secret to Outlasting the System: • Be authentic: Legends don’t fake it. They embrace who they are, unapologetically. • Be bold: Step outside the expected. Challenge norms and create something new. • Be unforgettable: Focus on your impact. Build a legacy that outlives you. As we navigate the complexities of our careers and lives, let’s aim to leave our mark, not just follow the crowd. Like the legends before us, we all have the potential to outsmart any system, stand the test of time, and be unkillable in our own way. 💬 What makes someone a legend in your eyes? Let’s discuss how we can create legacies that defy the system. 👇 #BeLegendary #OutsmartTheSystem #Legacy #Impact #Leadership #Influence #Innovation #Authenticity #CreateYourPath

Do you have the best team??We all need some stars...!! We all want them in our team! (SPOILER ALERT...there is a big BUT coming...) ENJOY this fantastic video with Adam Grant. Adam Grant is an incredible guy, who is a LeBron James and Shane Battier in his field, all in one! (I guarantee, you will love this video even if you are not a basketball fanatic) Below is my very personal take on this... I worked in a place where those that were perceived as stars, as major individual contributors to the profit line, were treated as such! That approach has certainly raised the confidence of those “stars” in the short term and exposed them to more opportunities, retained them from competitors, and improved the bottom line. But in some cases, in the long term, it has been detrimental to their own confidence and even to the bottom line of the institution!!! Don’t get me wrong, stars are key and can make a company lead in their industry, but the right organizational culture is essential. Humility and a thirst for growth and improvement can swiftly disappear when there are too many stars… What happens to their confidence when they are not performing, in an environment where they expected to always exceed and outperform? Some may hide their faults, blame others, create barriers, burnout as they put too much pressure on themselves…to meet that image of excellence promoted by the culture of the organization. As Adam Grant puts it simply “Lots of egos means infighting”. Have you got the right culture in your organization? Do you have the right balance between stars and role players? Is it a safe place for role players to speak up and add their views, their different perspective, so that the stars can shine even brighter? “Excellence is always striving to get better”. (Adam Grant) When was the last time that your organisation has reviewed its culture? When was the last time they have asked what can we improve? If you are in management, how would you like to see it changing? What can you do? Does your organization know how to spot a playmaker during an interview process? Do you? #leadership # management #organizationalculture
