Ever wondered how military service has shaped the lives of some of history's most notable figures? The dedication, discipline, and resilience developed during service are invaluable, even if you take a completely different path afterward. Top three things you should know: 1. Resilience Beyond Service: Many famous figures, from Hollywood legends to political icons, credit their time in the military with building their resilience. Whether it’s handling high-stress situations or learning to adapt on the fly, these are skills that apply in every field. 2. Leadership in Unexpected Places: Figures like Elvis Presley and Clint Eastwood demonstrated that leadership is transferable, whether it’s leading a squad or a creative team on set. For transitioning veterans, this is a reminder that leadership doesn't have to end with military service—it just takes on new forms. 3. Bridging Cultures & Experiences: Veterans often understand diverse perspectives, having served alongside people from various backgrounds. Stars like Ice-T and Jimi Hendrix used this adaptability to connect with audiences and influence culture. This skill can be a unique strength in post-military careers. This article shows how diverse career paths can be after service, offering some inspiration for leveraging your unique background and experiences in new ways. #VeteranTransition #MilitaryLifeSkills #ResilienceMatters https://lnkd.in/evhyantn

As a proud Military Veteran, I want to take this moment on Veteran's Day to honor the 18 million living U.S. military veterans. These exceptional men and women, representing roughly 5% of the U.S. population, are part of an elite and selfless group who willingly volunteered to step into harm’s way so others could remain safe. Veterans come from every background, each bringing a unique set of experiences, strengths, and perspectives shaped by service and sacrifice. They volunteered to put duty above self, and in doing so, they gave the rest of us the freedom to pursue our careers, raise our families, and live our lives. When they transitioned back into civilian life, many of them faced, and in some cases continue to face, new sets of challenges—the cultural shift to Corporate America. Navigating the language of business, adjusting to new workplace dynamics, and building professional networks are hurdles they know all too well. It’s not always easy, and it’s not always seamless. Today, let’s not only thank Veterans for their service but recognize the dedication they bring to every role they take on and the responsibility we have to help them make a full and healthy transition. Let’s support Veterans as they continue to grow, adapt, and lead in the business world—because the qualities that made them outstanding service members make them invaluable colleagues, mentors, and leaders in every industry. Thank you, Veterans. We owe you our respect, our support, and our gratitude every day. #VeteransDay #ThankYouVeterans #MilitaryToCivilian #VeteransInBusiness #VeteranLeadership #ServiceAndSacrifice #VeteranTransition #CorporateLeadership #GratefulNation #HireAVeteran #VeteranEmpowerment

🇺🇸 From the battlefield to the boardroom, these distinguished individuals are pursuing a new mission. Yesterday, I had the honor of discussing the U.S. military veteran’s journey from the military sector to the civilian sector with Joshua Galle, SHRM-SCP and Bill Reed, two veterans who've navigated these waters. Joshua is a former combat Marine and Bill a former Navy diver. I have provided a link to the discussion in the comment section. The occasional stigma surrounding veterans in the civilian workforce is unfortunate; and unwarranted. 🌟 Veterans bring unparalleled qualities to the table – resilience, leadership, and a mission-focused mindset. Yet, misconceptions linger. The belief that veterans are too rigid or face potential challenges like PTSD overshadows their vast potential. This isn't just a loss for veterans; it's a missed opportunity for businesses. It's time we shift our perceptions and fully integrate these exceptional individuals into our corporate landscapes. After all, if they can lead missions in uncertain terrains, imagine what they can achieve in our organizations. #MilitaryVeterans #MilitaryTransition #MilitaryToCivilian #MilitaryFamilies Steve Doolittle Bradley Blakeman Gavin Naples aryeh katz Roger Brown Jim Whaley David Carnahan MD MSCE Doug "Odie" Slocum Omar Fuentes, CSPO®, CSM® John Stapleton, MBA, CMPE Michelle Mullany Eric Gardner Sonya Ziegler Meline

Today, we honor the bravery and sacrifices made by all who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Veterans Day is a time to express gratitude for the commitment and selflessness of those who have defended our freedoms and protected our nation. To all veterans: Thank you for your service and the immense value you bring to our communities and workplaces. In recognition of Veterans Day I’d like to share the following ways we can support former military employees in our workplaces: 1. Recognize and Translate Military Skills: Take the time to understand how military roles translate to business skills. Support veterans by offering resources that match their experiences with civilian job functions. 2. Provide Flexibility and Support: Be mindful of the challenges that can come with transitioning from military to civilian work life. Flexible schedules and comprehensive mental health resources can make a big difference. 3. Celebrate Their Background: Create opportunities for veterans to share their experiences and leadership lessons. Consider hosting events or starting a veterans’ network to strengthen bonds and elevate their voices. Inclusivity empowers everyone, and as we move forward, let’s continue finding ways to better honor and support our veteran colleagues. #VeteransDay #ThankYouForYourService #WorkplaceInclusion #DiversityEquityandInclusion #DiversityMatters #InclusionMatters #EquityMatters

On this Veterans Day, we pause to honor all who have served in the Armed Forces. This day isn't just about recognizing past service, but about reflecting on the enduring impact of the values instilled in every service member. The Seven Army Values - Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage - aren't just words. They're a code that continues to guide veterans long after they've hung up their uniforms. In my journey from an Armor officer to my current role in the tech industry, these values have been my North Star. Loyalty teaches us to stand by our teams and our principles. Duty reminds us of our obligations to our community and nation. Respect fosters understanding and collaboration in diverse environments. Selfless Service encourages us to put the needs of others before our own. Honor compels us to adhere to our moral compass. Integrity ensures our actions align with our words. Personal Courage emboldens us to face challenges, both physical and moral. These values shape leaders who can navigate complexity, drive innovation, and inspire others - whether in uniform or in civilian life. To my fellow veterans: Your service matters. The values you've lived by continue to make a difference. To those who haven't served: Consider how these values might enhance your own life and work. The spirit of service isn't confined to the military - it's a mindset we can all embrace. Today, let's not just thank veterans for their past service, but recognize the ongoing impact of those with a service orientation in shaping a better future for all. #VeteransDay #ArmyValues #Leadership #ServiceNeverStops

𝗡𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗔 𝗩𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗻’𝘀 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗕𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 Transitioning from military to the civilian world is more than just a change in jobs—it’s a shift in 𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙩𝙮, 𝙥𝙪𝙧𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙚, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮. After 18 years of service, I’ve walked that path, and I’ve seen firsthand the challenges veterans face in finding their place in a new world. The skills we honed in the military—leadership, resilience, teamwork—are invaluable, yet translating them into civilian terms can be daunting. But remember, the journey is not one you have to walk alone. Support systems, whether through coaching, mentorship, or peer networks, are out there to guide us. As we take off the uniform, we don’t leave our values behind. Instead, we bring them forward to build new legacies. Let’s embrace this transition as an opportunity to redefine success on our own terms. #VeteranTransition #LifeAfterService #VeteranSupport #MilitaryToCivilian #ResilienceInTransition #NewBeginnings #ChristianLifeCaoch

One of the best parts about being in the corporate workforce thinking through the Veteran point of view is realizing you have the choice to choose. You don’t always get a choice in the military, and you definitely don’t get to pick your bosses. The saying is absolutely true that people don’t quit their jobs, they quit their bosses. Thinking of it from the veteran point of view, you no longer have to deal with a company commander screaming at you because you didn’t have the right screwdriver for change of command inventory, or the colonel downgrading your award because you aren’t the rank they consider as eligible to receive the award that you deserve. You have a right to choose. If the company isn’t right for you, move on. You are a product of your environment. If your environment is not helping you succeed, go find the one that will. Find what makes you happy, find a place that actually wants you there. Go be great out there this week! #Military #MilitaryCommunity #MilitaryVeteran #TransitioningServiceMembers

Your dedication, sacrifices, and unwavering commitment to protecting our freedoms are beyond words. Veterans exemplify the true essence of strong leadership—one that is not just about guiding others, but also about making sacrifices for a greater cause. It's about showing up, even when the path is uncertain or difficult, and being willing to put the team and mission above all else. As we reflect on the service and sacrifices of our veterans, let's remember that leadership is not always about taking credit—sometimes, it's about stepping up when no one else will, making tough decisions, and standing firm in the face of adversity.
