I highly recommend this video essay on the use of aspect ratio in film creation and presentation to all involved in the industry. The employment of aspect ratio as a marketing tool for Premium Large Formats (PLF) has often raised concerns. However, the issue is far more nuanced. Aspect ratio plays a crucial role in the creative process, going beyond mere cropping. It's about storytelling and tailoring the viewing experience for different environments—be it a cinema, IMAX, or home setting. Filmmakers with a technical mindset tend to grasp this concept fully. While I believe finding a perfect compromise in approach may not be possible, I am optimistic that filmmakers will become increasingly skilled and knowledgeable in this area over time. #aspectratio #imax #cinema
