Where does the #EU stand today on #AI regulation? 📍 Approved by the European Parliament in March 2024 and pending endorsement by the Council, the EU AI Act is set to become fully enforceable 24 months after its inception. Being the first global legal framework for AI providers, the EU AI Act positions European companies as first movers, potentially setting a precedent for other countries to follow suit. However, while the act marks a significant step towards establishing a legal framework for AI deployment in Europe, there's still uncertainty over its potential effects. 💡 Learn more in our latest article: ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dD8z4DxS #RolandBerger #LessHypeMoreResults #EUAIAct Maria Mikhaylenko

In June, the EU adopted the AI Act – the first binding worldwide horizontal regulation on AI. The new act uses a 'risk-based approach' to classify AI systems with different requirements and obligations: ⛔ Unacceptable risk: Prohibited. ⚠️ High risk (impacting health, safety or fundamental rights): Allowed but must meet specific requirements to access the EU market. 🔍 Limited risk: Must comply with transparency obligations. ☑️ Minimal risk: No additional obligations. The AI Act also introduces new rules for General Purpose AI (GPAI) models, with stricter requirements for those with high-impact capabilities. 🔎 Want to learn more about how the AI Act will shape the future of AI in the EU? AI both promises great opportunities and engenders much fear. While governments can create protective regulations, unless these regulations are coordinated internationally, they will not serve to effectively protect. As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to reshape industries and societies globally, the urgency for a cohesive regulatory framework that can address the complexities of AI deployment across different jurisdictions has never been clearer. However, harmonizing regulations internationally poses significant challenges, given the varying priorities and legal landscapes in regions such as the European Union (EU), the United States (US), and Asia. This blog post delves into these challenges and explores the different approaches to AI governance across these key regions.
