Maternal Mental Health Month is an important moment to call attention to the challenges mothers around the world face before and after pregnancy. At least one in five women experiences mental health concerns during pregnancy and after childbirth, but most go untreated. Black women face a higher chance of developing perinatal mood disorders compared to white women. And, they're less likely to receive treatment, in part due to stigma and fear of being judged unfit. One of your girlfriends, sisters, or cousins could be suffering without you ever knowing. We must continue to break the stigma in order to drive better outcomes for mothers. Black moms – all moms – deserve better. At the GE HealthCare Foundation, we’re collaborating to help develop solutions that improve maternal health and wellbeing.
