You can’t handle the truth! Check out the revised version of my white paper "To deck or not to deck" on my website! After receiving feedback from two leading prefabricated systems salespeople, I added new information about the acoustic performance of prefab vs conventional walls. Field tests have shown that properly detailed and installed prefab walls often perform within 3 points or less of their referenced STC. In comparison, conventional walls typically perform 6 to 8 points below their referenced STC! Learn more about the acoustic science behind prefabricated partition performance and the scrutiny it faces compared to conventional construction in the revised (V2) white paper. Inspired by Bill Gates: Join My English Reading Club for a Unique Learning Experience In his recent post, Bill Gates shared a list of books he recommends for the holiday season, sparking an idea that combines the joy of reading with the power of language learning. I’m excited to announce a new format that merges these two passions: my English Reading Club. This club is a space where both non-native learners and native speakers of English can come together to read, discuss, and explore literature in a collaborative, engaging environment. It’s not just about reading—it’s about diving deeper into the language and culture, and making the learning process interactive and meaningful. Here’s how it works: 1. Book Selection: Every month, I’ll post a list of book options, and participants will vote on which book to read. The choices will vary in genre and theme, offering a wide range of learning opportunities. 2. Structured Reading: The book will be divided into manageable sections, with weekly reading assignments to keep everyone on track. 3. Bi-weekly Discussions: Every two weeks, we’ll meet online to discuss what we've read so far. Both non-native speakers and native speakers will be encouraged to share their perspectives, analyze different aspects of the book, and help each other understand nuances that may be unique to native speakers’ experiences. 4. Assignments and Feedback: Along the way, I’ll send assignments to help reinforce what we've learned—vocabulary exercises, writing tasks, and thought-provoking questions about the book’s themes. This isn’t just a language-learning opportunity; it’s a cultural exchange where both native speakers and learners can enrich their understanding of the book and language. For learners, it’s a chance to pick up idiomatic expressions, cultural references, and more subtle aspects of language that are often only apparent to native speakers. For native speakers, it's an opportunity to share insights and help learners grow while engaging with people from different backgrounds. Interested? Let me know in the comments if you’d like to join or have suggestions for books to include in the first round. I’m just testing interest in this format for now, and your feedback will help shape the direction of the club! https://lnkd.in/ducmq3JF
Here’s the kind of book I love—one that sparks curiosity and helps you see the world differently. Grady Hillhouse, P.E.’s Engineering in Plain Sight reveals the mysteries of modern-day infrastructure in a fascinating and approachable way: https://lnkd.in/gTTQq84S

To Matthew Skelton, using the genotypical design principles and the Participative Design Workshop, it is possible to redesign any size structure from bottom to top, efficiently. These principles and the PDW totally replace all the old thinking and approaches to sociotech. There is a mass of publications documenting all this on www.socialsciencethatactually works.
