Moving BrainDeck's notification permissions request to onboarding. Will I get more user's to opt-in? I thought I was doing something when I put our notifications request at the point where a user schedules a study session within the app. The incentive to do so at this point is clear and we got a near 100% acceptance rate for those who tried to schedule a session. The problem was - a huge portion of our user base never tried to do this, doh 🤦♂️. Because of this, the overall acceptance rate was low and I'm now convinced that for the majority of apps, this request should come during onboarding. The sleep tracker app attempts to convert its free users into paying customers... 🟩 With 5 different paywalls! Here's the TLDR breakdown of their strategy: 1/ Triggering traditional single-view horizontal carousel paywall during onboarding 2/ Offering "50% OFF" after users hit the jackpot with a lucky draw [Guess what, everyone hits the jackpot. This happens near the end of onboarding] 3/ Reframing "50% OFF" as a newcomer discount after completing onboarding 4/ Showing a paywall with a countdown timer to create a sense of urgency and induce FOMO 5/ Anchoring pricing differently with their final offer paywall The offer paywalls are randomly shown on every app reopen — and can be accessed from home & other touchpoints.
