I am very happy to share with you another DLA Piper article on how to enhance the regulatory environment and sustainable practices for space. Part two of our three-part series article addresses the different international treaties governing space and considers outer space as a legal entity. Naomi Pryde, Sam Ingleton and Christian Keogh explain what this means and how it articulates with existing international space law treaties. Enjoy reading it !!🚀🚀

Here’s the one important lesson the 1967 Outer Space Treaty taught use 💡
Space is the province of all mankind. It is for the benefit of all.
In 1967, the Outer Space Treaty laid the foundation for space law, establishing key principles of peaceful use, non-appropriation, and freedom of exploration.
Adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, the treaty made it clear: no country can claim ownership of outer space, including the Moon and other celestial bodies. These guidelines were crucial during the Cold War era, when the space race between the United States and the Soviet Union brought these issues to the forefront of international law.
Fast forward to today, and we're facing a whole new set of challenges—commercial spaceflight, space traffic management, space resource utilization, and more. As more nations and private companies venture into space, the legal landscape must evolve to keep pace.
To ensure that space exploration continues to benefit all of humanity, updating and reinforcing our legal frameworks is essential.
At Via Space Holdings, we remain committed to the principles of democratized space resources upheld by the 1967 Outer Space Treaty and we believe this is a conversation we must have.
Our future beyond Earth will hinge on the delicate interplay of collaboration, innovation, and responsible space exploration, with space law playing a crucial role.
