Off-season is approaching and a crucial time for seasonal campgrounds. You set yourself up for success during the off-season. Off-season priorities are: 1. Marketing 2. Programming and activities for next season 3. Campground improvements Specific to our growth at ROL Campgrounds, we're also focusing HEAVILY on executing our mission and vision with new acquisitions and partnerships and securing new investments. BUT: We also can't afford to take our foot off the pedal with maximizing operations at our current locations. We're a lean team, and we're entering a 6-month period that will determine the future of our company. No excuses. Just put in the work and make shit happen. It is up to us, and I know we have the team to build an awesome company and portfolio of campgrounds. May 1 is a date circled on my calendar, when I plan to come up for air, reflect for a moment, and say, "We did everything we could."

Congratulations Rachel McLellan for the honor of Hiver of the Quarter in Q3! Rachel helps lead the everyday operations of our labor management division, Lime I&D. Her experience and attention to detail, making sure nothing is missed in the install and dismantle process for our clients exhibits, is second-to-none. We’re thankful everyday that Rachel is here looking after Lime’s labor operations. Thank you Rachel for all you do to help keep Lime and BlueHive going strong! Q: How long have you worked at BlueHive? A: 3 years Q: What is your position / title? A: Director of Labor Operations for LIME I&D Q: Do you have a nickname? A: RachieKia – my neighbor gave me the nickname after I bought my first car in high school (a Kia Optima) and it stuck. Q: How did you get started working in the industry? A: I had completed my degree in Elementary Education but wanted to go a different route than teaching. I was looking for a career where I could utilize my years of experience and love for the customer service industry and happened upon a position as a Customer Service Rep for Nth Degree in Boston. I had no idea what a trade show was going into it, but I immediately fell in love with the fast-paced, something new every day environment that was ultimately all about client interaction. 8 years later I am still loving what I do even though my role has changed over time. Q: Favorite thing to do when not at work? A: Spending time with family & friends and reading a good book Q: Favorite sports team(s)? A: Michigan Wolverines Q: Favorite holiday and why? A: Christmas because I love the Christmas spirit and the family traditions Q: If you could have one superpower what would it be? What’s your favorite thing about working at FACS?  One of the things I love most about working at FACS is the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects that have a positive impact on the environment. It's incredibly fulfilling to be part of a team that's dedicated to making a difference in the world. What is one thing we don't know about you (non-work-related)? Outside of work, I'm all about hockey, golf, hiking, and most importantly, spending quality time with my family. What is one thing that you geek out about?  I'm a bit of a history buff and love diving into the stories and events that have shaped our world. Whether it's ancient civilizations, wars, or cultural movements, I find it fascinating to explore the complexities of the past and how they've influenced our present. What is your favorite store to shop at in-person or virtually? When it comes to shopping, I'm a huge fan of browsing through local farmer's markets. Do you have any pets? Yes, I'm proud to say I have a rescue dog named Tusk, who brings endless joy to my life. He's a delightful mix of Shiba Inu and Husky, and our favorite activity is going to the brewery together and hunting lizards! What is your favorite book to read?  Two of my top picks are "The Worlds That Made Us" by Akhil Reed Amar, delving into the historical roots of American constitutional law, and any work by Dr. Seuss, whose imaginative stories always bring joy and inspiration. What is your favorite random fact?  The term "Windy City" was not originally coined because of Chicago's weather, but rather because of its politicians.

How exciting! Evolving on many levels

This past weekend, I had the privilege of working at Nashville Oktoberfest once again, representing Nashville Soft Pretzel Co., LLC in the NSPC tent. This marks my third (or maybe fourth!) year contributing to this amazing event, and each year brings new opportunities for growth. In 2023, I transitioned to the production side, where I learned to carefully weigh fresh pretzel dough into 3 or 4 oz increments quickly and efficiently. But this year, I made it a point to learn even more. By shadowing the people who typically run other stations, I picked up new skills and became more versatile in helping out where needed. Our fearless leader, Vincent Dreffs, knows exactly where our strengths lie, and I’m grateful for the chance to expand mine. One thing that makes this team special is how dedicated we all are. A handful of Vince’s family members even fly down from Michigan to work the tent every year—that’s how much this means to us (and how wonderful of a leader he is)! We had no new faces this year, which was reassuring, as everyone knew their roles and was ready to dive back in. The experience felt like clockwork, thanks to this seasoned group of hard-working individuals including Abby Harris, Zach Anderson (BS-Guitar) and Ashley Guastella! This event allows me to hone my Process Improvement skills. Whether it’s in an office or at a festival, my ability to spot inefficiencies and step in to make things run smoother is something I take pride in. When I had a moment to rest, I’d check our stock or see if the service area needed anything. If my coworkers needed a hand, or a station was getting behind, I jumped in wherever I could. As one of our leaders pointed out, learning how to assist with other stations was a huge asset this year, and being adaptable helped the whole operation run more efficiently. Teams that play together, stay together. Or something. Well, we believe away days are a great opportunity to connect and deepen working relationships. Ostensibly that’s the purpose of the annual PLOTT summer day out. But also laughter, silliness, bonding and, um … cocktails? This year's destination was lovely Manchester, with a trip to The Cube (as seen on TV) at Urban Playground UK. If you've not seen it, it's a series of challenges set inside a glass cube. Each task involves either problem-solving, concentration, or memory skills. And a good deal of laughter. Isn’t this just what the PLOTT team does every day? Yes, but with cocktails. After all that hard work, it was only right to top it off with Brunch at Turtle Bay. And more cocktails. And more laughter. We’re a happy bunch. In the end our business is all about teamwork.
