Remember what dial-up internet was like? Or did you grow up in the era of high-speed networks? Dial-up was slow speed, limited to kilobytes and intermittent. In those days (2004), the only way we submitted assignments was by email to our professors. And how did we get the courses (video lectures and readings)? On a CD package sent directly from Stanford University to Petrozavodsk State University (PetrSU) . This is how I took the course International Security in a Changing World, offered under the Stanford Institute for International Studies Initiative on Distance Learning.

Day 2 of MOSIP Connect was one of energetic discussions, information exchange, and sharing of stories. A keynote by Brian Behlendorf (OWF) highlighted key factors around open source, specifically on open wallets as the future of identity verification, and the immense possibilities MOSIP's collaboration with OWF has to offer. Pramod Varma (CDPI)’s plenary session offered a first-principles understanding of the need for credentials and key strategies to leverage them to ease service delivery for governments and the economy. The gathering also got a glimpse of MOSIP’s roadmap in the coming year, gaining insights into all that the project has been working on and will make available very soon. The rest of the day included informative talks on specific topics including open-source licensing, liveness detection and fraud management, the evolution of paper credentials to digital ones, and building trust in cross-border identity. Throughout the day, sessions sparked in-depth discussion and debate, answering important questions and concerns around a myriad of themes including security, quality, sustainability, and modalities. All of this, alongside another action-packed day at the Solution Discovery space, multiple meetings, workshops, and meetings. Tomorrow, at the final day of MOSIP Connect 2024, participants will have the opportunity to engage with what promises to be an exceptional set of sessions and workshops. The day’s agenda includes sessions on G2P transfers, knowledge-sharing with Togo, Sierra Leone, Guinea and Burkina Faso, communication strategies in trust-building, and gender inclusion initiatives on MOSIP. Tacit knowledge is the gold of the future! Building tacit knowledge (TK) becomes the future's winners, high performers! We integrate the construction of TK into our mentor services. In addition, the service is supported by digital tools for mapping, learning, follow-up and reporting. Without the use of TK, very few new jobs would be created. For countries that experience a failure in productivity over the years, TK must be built and used in smart practices. Norway, my home country, suffers from "Dutch Disease" and will only get out of this "suffering" by investing in building and exploiting tacit knowledge. Tacit knowledge can seem intimidating, but it means nothing more than applying empathy, critical thinking, intuition, creativity, persistence to financial gain. Yes, empathy has value and can create fantastic added value for companies. Sympathy no longer wins deals! Feel free to get in touch for a non-binding conversation.

Love this initiative by Kathi Vidal and the #USTPO to support innovators in local communities! Trademarks, in particular, have gotten more complex for businesses that operate entirely online. With the rise of brands or “virtual products” used in video games and also, the metaverse, it’s even more important to evaluate the protections you’ll need at an earlier stage of your company or development. #smallbiz #intellectualproperty #trademark #patents #SmallBusiness
What can you do to serve our country this Fourth of July week? Help USPTO support innovation and lift communities. You can share this information with your academic, public, or state library and invite them to become a #PTRC. PTRCs deliver #IP services at no charge on a community level. Or email me (Director@uspto.gov) your library's email and I'll send them a personal email. Need PTRC resources yourself, check out our almost 90 locations across the USA --> https://lnkd.in/gNjPdv2h

Please read ATE’s President Cheryl Torrez’s words on advocacy and consider attending the summer conference in Denver: I am looking forward to our summer conference in a few short weeks. Advocacy will be the thread woven through the conference. It is through Advocacy that we, Advance our understandings, Transform our connections, and Energize our commitment to education. A few thoughts about advocacy for self… Self-advocacy for teachers, teacher educators, and educational professionals is essential not only for our individual fulfillment but also for the betterment of education as a whole. As educators, we are entrusted with the monumental task and privilege of shaping the minds and hearts of future generations. We pour our passion, creativity, and countless hours into our work, striving to create enriching learning experiences for our students. Yet, amidst this noble endeavor, it is all too easy to overlook our own needs and aspirations. Advocating for oneself as an educator begins with acknowledging the profound impact we have on our students’ lives. It is recognizing that our well-being directly influences our ability to inspire, nurture, and educate effectively. Therefore, self-advocacy is not a selfish act, but rather a necessary step towards ensuring our own sustainability and resilience in the face of challenges. This advocacy encompasses several key elements. It starts with prioritizing our professional development and growth. Seeking opportunities for continuous learning not only enhances our teaching practices but also revitalizes our passion for education. Whether through workshops, conferences, or pursuing advanced degrees, investing in ourselves is an investment in our students’ futures. Furthermore, advocating for oneself means fostering a supportive work environment. It involves voicing our needs for adequate resources, manageable workloads, and constructive feedback. By advocating for fair compensation and recognition of our contributions, we affirm the value of our profession and empower ourselves to thrive. Equally important is nurturing our physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Teaching can be demanding, and self-care is not a luxury but a necessity. Taking time to recharge, maintaining a healthy work-life balance, and seeking support when needed are essential practices that enable us to bring our best selves into the classroom each day. In advocating for ourselves, we model resilience, determination, and a commitment to lifelong learning for our students. We demonstrate that self-respect and professional growth go hand in hand with effective teaching and student success. As we continue on our journey as educators, let us embrace the power of self-advocacy. Let us affirm our worth, nurture our potential, and strive for excellence not only for ourselves but for the benefit of every student entrusted to our care. https://lnkd.in/gDQTF2x6
