𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐎𝐜𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞: 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐎𝐜𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐞𝐬 Open ocean aquaculture is about utilizing underused, exposed ocean sites for food production and distancing the process from polluted and congested coastal areas. However, the biggest hurdle to this development is the lack of stability and resilience presented by deeper waters, strong currents, and large waves in those parts of the oceans. Also, distant site locations raise the maintenance costs putting the cost-effectiveness of these facilities under question. The rapidly rising significance of aquaculture across the globe validly places the plausibility of this approach under analysis. So true Yoav Rosen #innovation and #alternativeingredients are a must #insects in general and #bsf in particular can have existing positive #environmental impacts for the #aquafeed industry. In order for that to occur companies must actively develop supply chains for insect ingredients for securing future supply. A key success factor is having a facility close to good waste streams and fish production, distributing the costs among all involved parties in the whole value chain (processing, transportation etc.) FreezeM can offer increased stability, consistency, and production volume for insect #protein producers that supply ingredients to feed companies lowering the barriers of entry and scaleup.

Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (#IMTA) practices involve-#co-cultivation of different species from various trophic levels in a single aquaculture system. This approach allows for the recycling of nutrients and waste, promoting sustainability. Here are some key IMTA practices: Co-cultivation of Species: IMTA involves growing fed #species (e.g., fish) alongside extractive species (e.g., shellfish, seaweeds) that can utilise the #waste produced by the fed species. Nutrient #Recycling: Waste from fed species serves as nutrients for extractive species. For example, uneaten feed and fish waste provide organic matter for shellfish and macroalgae, enhancing overall productivity. Diverse #Species Integration: IMTA systems typically include a combination of finfish, shellfish (like clams and oysters), macroalgae (like seaweed), and detritivores (like sea cucumbers) to optimise nutrient use and improve ecosystem health. Site Selection: It is critical to choose suitable locations for #IMTA systems. Sites with good water flow and quality are essential for nutrient dispersal and the health of all species. #Environmental Monitoring: Monitoring water quality, nutrient levels and the health of all species in the system is crucial to ensuring a balanced and productive ecosystem. #Sustainable Feeding Practices: Using high-quality, efficient feeds for the fed species minimises waste and enhances the nutrient value available to extractive species. #Ecosystem Services: IMTA practices can improve resilience against diseases and #environmental changes by promoting biodiversity and ecosystem health. #Community Involvement: Engaging local communities and stakeholders in IMTA practices can enhance social acceptance and contribute to knowledge sharing and capacity building. Education and Training: Providing farmers with training on #IMTA techniques helps ensure these systems' successful implementation and management. #Research and #Development: Ongoing research is essential to refining IMTA practices, exploring new species combinations, and improving overall efficiency and sustainability. Is it possible to keep multiple species of #seafood in a single pond? You have got an answer. The truth is that online resources are available to give you vital information. #Sustainableaquaculture #Ecology #sustainableagriculture Referenced article https://lnkd.in/duJdjTtt.

July 1, 2024 Show '3': Erik Wilton Hagberg, CEO - Pacific Aquaculture Cooperatives International, (In Studio), Theme: "Island-by-Island Model Infrastructure Development for Sustainable Sea Cumbers Farming" Overview: Erik Wilton Hagberg, CEO, Pacific Aquaculture Cooperatives International is credited for creating a system of Sea Cucumbers grown in the wild among South Pacific Island Nations (SIDS) on a sustainable basis. His pioneering work has been seen as all natural to enhance the expanding sources of protein and many other highly nutritious food related products as well as traditional homeopathic medical properties of the Sea Cucumbers. "EriK" works closely with local Pacific based island populations to protect the native habitats of Sea Cucumbers in collaboration with Dr. Thomas J. Goreau and his "BioRock" invention. Such collaborative work is allowing for the over harvested Sea Cucumbers populations to regenerate while demonstrating stable harvesting methods for local and inner-island sources of food and revenue. Such efforts are providing sustainable local food sources, small businesses development in the processing and packaging of this highly important protein sources, while creating jobs for dozens and hundreds of local island people. The "Global Coral Reef Initiatives" headed by Dr. Thomas J. Goreau is an inventor and provider of the world's leading coral reef restoration technology. "BioRock" technology uses renewable energy sources to grow limestone over a steel aperture in sea water. BioRock caused transplanted corals to grow two to six times faster than naturally and makes them up to 50 times more resilient to coral bleaching from high sea surface temperatures associated with sea level rise. BioRock produces the only known substance to make marine installations grow stronger and thicker over time rather than corrode and decay. Dr. Goreau is a leader in responsive action to Global Climate Change. He has active BioRock installations in over 20 countries worldwide. The PanAmerican PanAfrican Association PaPa) was established in 1968 by its founder Dr. Robert Starling Pritchard II, Dr. Pritchard is a world renown author, publisher, researcher, musician, composer, community activist, humanitarian, and leader among Non Governmental Organizations at the United Nations. Now led by Henri Georges Polgar, the PaPa NGO maintains Consultative Status to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.
