The Dutch market for alternative proteins is on the brink of exponential growth, expected to exceed €10 billion by 2030. Despite globally recognized expertise in #agriculture and #biotechnology, startups and scale-ups face obstacles in scaling up. Last year, Foodvalley NL and Invest-NL identified the challenges and made recommendations for developing a Dutch ecosystem for alternative proteins. We're proud to have proofread the report 'Enhancing the ecosystem for alternative #protein innovation: Strategies for scaling success', which highlights how limited access to facilities, high operational costs, complex regulations, and funding shortages hinder scaling efforts. With national collaboration, targeted infrastructure, and innovative financing models, the #Netherlands can further strengthen its role as a leader in #food innovation.

Protealis is at the forefront of developing high-performing legume crops in Europe. Brazilian cultivated meat startup cellva has successfully completed a $1.5 million funding round, attracting investments from a diverse group including ProVeg International , Rumbo Ventures , and AIR Capital. Founded in 2022, Cellva specializes in producing microcarriers, nutrient microcapsules, and cultivated fats for both the food and pharmaceutical industries. The company's patented technology claims to offer sustainable alternatives that eliminate the need for animal slaughter, aligning with the growing demand for ethical and environmentally friendly production methods. With this fresh capital injection, Cellva plans to enhance its production infrastructure, expand its team, and facilitate international growth. The startup has set an ambitious goal to reach a monthly production capacity of 10 tons. This development positions Cellva as a key player in the cellular agriculture sector in South America, addressing the increasing demand for nutritious and sustainable ingredients across various industries. Cellva's progress demonstrates the growing momentum of the cultivated meat industry beyond traditional hubs, highlighting the global nature of innovation in this space. Afrika Agri Forum 2024. On June 6, the Africa Agri Forum will be held at location Fort bij Vechten. LNV councils, entrepreneurs, knowledge institutions and other parties will then meet to explore agri opportunities in the emerging markets of the African continent. During the breakout sessions, our colleague Michel de Bruin will also speak about Sustainable Food Systems.
