Israeli production must thrive: Defense industry leaders and Ministry of Defense officials met to discuss insights from a year of war: Director General of the Israeli Ministry of Defense, Maj. Gen. (Res.) Eyal Zamir, convened the CEOs of the major defense companies—IAI - Israel Aerospace Industries, Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and Elbit Systems Ltd. The discussion, which included the Head of DDR&D Brig. Gen. (Res.) Dr. Daniel Gold, and other senior officials, focused on reviewing defensive strategies and the Ministry’s assessment of the wars progress. Topics included lessons learned, improving readiness, and maintaining operational endurance during the war. The meeting also emphasized the growing capabilities of Israel's domestic defense manufacturing.

“The Defense Department is signaling its demand for a new era of innovation. There is a wealth of private-sector talent and capital eager to meet that demand. Both sides should seek opportunities to bridge the two — and foster the tech and talent that, as the Cold War showed, can defeat adversaries while also delivering enormous economic benefits to the American people.” Defense Innovation Board Chair Mike Bloomberg hit the nail on the head. A dual focus of Integrating new tech and attracting top talent to present the best solutions to national defense are the way forward. Many of my friends in Silicon Valley and in burgeoning maker spaces/hack-a-thons in universities across America recognize the opportunity that is present and through organizations like Shift and Reindustrialize are seeking to push the conversation forward. The intersection of our nations toughest technological questions and our brightest talent is a natural one - we just have to remove the roadblocks. Be The Solution.

Glad to see this viewpoint is gaining more and more momentum! Bloomberg: “One area the board has been focusing on is changing the way the department treats data. In the private sector, data is an asset — a resource that can help an organization improve over time. In the military, however, good data is too often out of reach. Sometimes it’s not collected. Other times, it’s not digitized, just a pile of paper locked away in a cabinet. Sometimes the fastest way to retrieve and share it is to move it onto a disc and send it by snail mail.
