Join the Rock Fight, LLC for my podcast conversation with Colin True. In a world of expanding consumerism, staggering choice and increasing product affordability, with decades trying to change consumer behavior otherwise, #appliedinnovation allows that all options are on the table to finally solve for waste and sustainability where we discuss: - The polarization of the American Consumer Market: the appeal and impressive price elasticity of brands that are truly connected to consumer ( HOKA, On, lululemon, HUGO BOSS ), the Rise and Rise of Value ( Walmart, Target, SHEIN ), and The Rest: brands stuck in the #MessyMiddle in between ( thank you Scott Belsky ) - The Brand Conundrum: Fiduciary Responsibility or Environmental Responsibility: can we have it both ways ? ( Patagonia ) and is it fair to keep blaming brands (?) - #digitalinnovation leading the way to the Outdoor UX ( Strava, DashLX ) and Brand Loyalty - The democratization of the Outdoors ( Hipcamp , Outdoorsy, HOLO Footwear, Jimmy Chin on Netflix , climbing walls at Public Lands, and a shout out to Tae Kim and his pioneering vision at Alite ) - The reality of ( imminently ) pending legislation and our industry organizations helping us prepare ( American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA), Footwear Distributors and Retailers of America (FDRA) )thank you Steve Lamar and Matt Priest - Moving beyond 'the bottle' from recycling to circularity ... mechanical, chemical, and molecular ( Circ®, Reju, Ambercycle, LanzaTech Mango Materials , Eastman, Invisible Company ) on the march to commodity price parity - The hope for the future of our industry and our planet when all options are being #innovated

Help me out! I am collecting concrete examples! 🌍 Part of 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹: 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗯𝘆 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻? Not only since the newest Netflix movie "Buy Now - The Shopping Conspiracy" have we been reminded that our current economic model isn't just facing a problem—it 𝗶𝘀 the problem for our planet (and by extension, humanity). As the movie highlights, the consumer discretionary sector, especially textiles, footwear, and apparel, exemplifies this issue. At its core, the challenge lies in the economic rationale: ➡️ 𝗦𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲, 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝘁. ➡️ 𝗗𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵? 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. This game of survival creates a system where companies turn into marketing machines, pushing consumers to buy more than they need—fueling overproduction, overconsumption, and planetary strain. 𝗦𝗼, 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀? 🌿 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆? 📜 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻? 📉 𝗗𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵? Something else? Please share your thoughts and even better, share with me concrete examples. I want to collect as good examples as I can and want to share it back in some other posts. #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #ResponsibleConsumption #Degrowth #ClimateAction #SustainableDevelopment #OverConsumption

"A curated view of where innovation is happening in marketing today, why it matters, and how it is transforming modern business". --- # 429 FASHION, France Mindful movement. I've had the chance to talk a few times about sneakers in relation to projects that I found both interesting and innovative. This time, it’s about a footwear start-up that begins with a core concept of sustainability and then builds an entire world around it, from production methods to collaborations, all while establishing a truly unique identity. While many fashion companies claim to be committed to sustainability, the Bordeaux-based sneaker brand Zèta truly lives up to the promise by turning agricultural waste into shoes. Founded by designer and entrepreneur Laure Babin, Zèta uses agricultural by-products to craft their footwear. Everything in their production chain, including the boxes each pair is shipped in, comes from recycled materials. A few months ago, through a partnership with Nespresso for their Re collection, they incorporated coffee production waste into their designs. Their latest model, Olea, features a material called Oleatex, which is developed in Turkey and made from the crushed remnants of olives left over from olive oil production. Their next project is a pair of 100% biodegradable sneakers with seeds embedded in the soles. The idea is that once worn out, customers will be able to plant their shoes, giving them a second life as flowers and shrubs. 🙌 What’s your take? 👉 More content on our website b-f-t-m.com/DRUMROLL Subscribe to the weekly newsletter. 🎯 If you want to learn more about our transformative approach to generating growth (yes, what we call innovation marketing!), feel free to write us privately. While today is officially #Nationalflowerday, it's also Thursday - pls enjoy today's Thursday Thanks: 👍 Sports Illustrated will continue to exist under a new arrangement between Minute Media, headed by Asaf Peled and the Authentic Brands Group. 👏 Semafor was named one of Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies in media. According to writer Nicole LaPorte, "Semafor’s news stories eschew the classic “inverted pyramid” formula and the “view from nowhere” faux objectivity, highlighting a story’s facts, the reporter’s opinion, and analysis. Fast-breaking news is delivered in essential bullet points. The format innovations are notable, but so is its obsession with scoops, breaking major news in 2023 such as revealing why Elon Musk split with OpenAI." 💛 💛 👟 Vibram Group has partnered with Endstate and Museum of Fine Arts, Boston to design an NFC Chipped sneaker celebrating the museum’s, “Hallyu! The Korean Wave” exhibition. It explores the rise of South Korea as a cultural superpower and the worldwide impact of its transformative contributions to cinema, drama, music, fashion, beauty and technology.” Vibram is hosting an event tonight giving the public a sneak look 6-9 p.m. at the Vibram Connection Lab. Tickets are going fast: you may register: https://rb.gy/21tuyo 👉 The Outdoor Industry Association released its Outdoor Retail Sales Trend report with a few positive nuggets: accessories are showing growth; new more casual participants are changing the product mix; road and trail running shoes are supporting the outdoor footwear market; insulated cups, mugs and tumblers brought in $630 million on 84.3% year-over-year growth; and good news if you love casual apparel (sweatpants, knit shirts, casual pants) because these items led the growth in the apparel category . 🌏 Sustainability experts in will gather next week in NYC at the Sourcing Journal Sustainability Summit now in its third edition bringing together executives and leaders at the forefront of change. 𝗕𝗜𝗭 𝗕𝗨𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗦 #𝟴 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗯𝗶𝗿𝗱𝘀: 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗧𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗙𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 While doing some research, I was fascinated by 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗯𝗶𝗿𝗱𝘀 co-founders Tim Brown and Joey Zwillinger's approach to sustainable shoes. Here's what I found : 📢 They explained how traditional footwear supply chains were terrible for the planet, and their innovative idea to make shoes from eco-friendly merino wool and tree fibre. 🚀 Starting from a tiny flat in San Francisco, they perfected a prototype through rigorous testing and finally eased chronic foot pains of their own. ⚡ 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗯𝗶𝗿𝗱𝘀 launched in 2016 to instant buzz with a simple online storefront, all while operating sustainably from the ground up without any funding. 💵 Within months, their shoes sold out constantly. 🎖 Carefully designed for comfort and grace, they proved eco doesn't mean sacrifice. 🌍 The retail expansion was disciplined, focusing on cultural epicentres to incentivize trips as experiences, not destinations. 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗯𝗶𝗿𝗱𝘀 continues innovating new sustainable materials, from eucalyptus tree fibre to green carbon footprint labelling for full transparency Their approach inspired me to "build a better shoe" through empathy, craft and purpose beyond profits alone. It's clear sustainable businesses can thrive by solving real customer needs better than others ever have. For any leaders passionate about both environmental and experience-led progress, Allbirds provides a powerful blueprint to disrupt entire industries for the betterment of people and the planet. In conclusion, what real customer pains can your business solve through innovative, purpose-driven solutions? Allbirds is proof that focusing on genuine positive impact aligns profitability with progress in every sense - inspiring me daily to build my ventures the same way. Let me know how you feel about 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗯𝗶𝗿𝗱𝘀 and this story background in the comments !!! 👞♻️🌱 My Learnings about #Sustainable #Footwear Last Wednesday I attended the Sustainability Summit of British Footwear Association in Birmingham. As I already shared my incredible travel story, thus I want to focus now on my impression and learnings.🤓 First of all I was very impressed by the size of the event: With 180 attendees the event was bigger than I had expected. At the same time this size was familiar enough to have relevant chats. The whole event was perfectly organised and offered a variety of different topics with great experts! It was impressive to witness how UK 🇬🇧 based brands are preparing themselves for the upcoming flood of international regulation about sustainability and supply chain transparency. Being an environmental engineer and having conducted my first LifeCycleAssessments already 20 years ago, it is calming to see, how existing tools and methods of circular economy are finally getting mass-adopted. 👉 My four main learnings are: 1️⃣ Legislation is forcing brands internationally towards knowing and optimising their supply chains - finally! 2️⃣ Footwear items on average are only worn 100 times before their end of life! 3️⃣ Many companies are meanwhile working with repair services like Bootrepaircompany or shoedoc GmbH to extend usage phase of shoes - longevity of products it the most effective means for improving sustainability! 4️⃣ Switching to Green Energy for a footwear companies is only marketing: it only contributes 2% to the overall carbon footprint - raw material clearly dominate it! That is where improvement needs to happen, not just in solar panels! Finally it was great to learn about several expamples where more legislation towards sustainability is not a threat for footwear business - by rethinking material choices and leveraging plant-based materials it can be an opportunity to improve both your products and your business! 🙃 Thanks for shaping this great event to Polly Lythall, Jane Wilson and Vanessa Podmore. 👏👏 I am already looking forward to share soon, how our Footprint Technologies' #AI Service is also contributing to a more sustainable footwear business by cutting down emissions and avoid waste in online retail. Watchout for our upcoming #BFA #Webinar in May!

Steal this business idea: ✅Sustainable, durable sportswear made from natural fibers that LOOKS GOOD AND IS FOR MEN TOO I’m trying to find simple workout pants that ❗️doesn’t make me look like I’m going to an ashram right after workout ❗️and that’s not made from polyester ❗️feels good on the skin —— ✅Transparently sourced & produced in EU. Check out Vresh GmbH for inspiration and talk to the founder Klaus Buchroithner —— ✅Pricing: transparent too. The consumer of 2024 is not stupid. They want to know what is going on. Check out Gutsch and talk to their Chief Storyteller Roman Eggenberger —— ✅Design: timeless & minimalist. These are pieces you want to wear forever. Talk to Nadine Schratzberger. —— ✅Tailored, uniquely fitted to YOUR measurements to provide a top notch experience and reduce returns. Check Son of a Tailor for for inspiration. It can’t be rocket science. —— I worked on it for 2 years from 2016-2018. We didn’t make it. Now I don’t have the capacity to work on such a brand. If you know someone who wants to explore that - or a really cool brand that never thought of this revolutionary idea (😅), then let them know. Happy to be a sparring partner and support with my network. Two of my core strengths that I’d love to leverage more in 2024. What do you wear for your fitness workouts?

First of all I want to say big ups! to Arc'teryx Equipment for all the awesome work they have been doing in repair and resale. The title of the article says " Inside Arc'teryx investment in circular fashion" I'm curious where those of you in my linkedin loops consider Repair and Resale in the circular model. While I totally believe durability plays a huge role and extending the life of wearable goods imperative, I just don't consider them circular and am very protective of that word....What am I, a recycler, supposed to do with these goods at the end of life? If there is not a solution that can utilize products as raw feedstock for future products then it's just not circular. Am I being too narrow minded? it's a possibility!
