#Ai making Computer Science degrees a hobby degree like Literature, English, Art History, and any degree with the word STUDIES in it?! "No, we still recruit students with coding degrees within the Engineering College, not the Arts & Science College. Why? Because 90% of the Arts & Science College Computer Science courses focus on theoretical crap, and the schools do not want to change their lazy asses. No real company wants those useless employees. While 90% of the Engineering College computer science degree focuses on real-world projects companies seek. That's the real-world difference that matters." DR https://lnkd.in/gn3pWKWX

#JourneysAreEmotions . "Today's photographs are just pictures, but the old ones have your story." . A visit to the Computer History Museum in California seated me on a time travel almost back to a century from the day I coded my 1st 'C' program. While at Computer Science Engineering, the computers we used in college were Time sharing Unix Terminals, and on my first job it was a Windows-XP on an IBM-PC of 512MB RAM. . At college, the evolution of computers and computing technologies really fascinated me, coz it had both History and Technology. We were taught that the first generation computers were electromechanical and were made up of vacuum tubes, but never got a chance to see those large vacuum tube computers. We were taught that the second generation computers were made up of transistors, but never got a chance to see them too... Similarly, the evolution of networks, the evolution of programming languages were mere textual learning without any live visualization. But as a student, I wanted to see them with my own eyes so that I can feel the evolutionary trajectory of computing devices. . 17 years ago, Got a chance to visit the Computer History Museum in California, It helped me to visualize and feel the evolution of computing technologies learned in the textbook... It was one of the most meaningful days of my career with software engineering. The museum will bombard you with precious collections to make you understand concepts like.. . History of IO Devices - Punch Card Reader - Tape Drives - Daisy Wheel. Napier's Bone. Vacuum Tube and Transistor Computers. ENIAC. CRAY, the Super Computer. History of programming Languages. Time Sharing Systems. Origin Of Internet. ...and much more.

"Universities Have a Computer-Science Problem," By Ian Bogost https://lnkd.in/eP4JjEtc I know there is a paywall, but it's am article worth reading for those in the Tech industry. The punch-line: "Near the end of our conversation, Isbell mentioned the engineering fallacy, which he summarized like this: Someone asks you to solve a problem, and you solve it without asking if it’s a problem worth solving. I used to think computing education might be stuck in a nesting-doll version of the engineer’s fallacy, in which CS departments have been asked to train more software engineers without considering whether more software engineers are really what the world needs. Now I worry that they have a bigger problem to address: how to make computer people care about everything else as much as they care about computers."

The Virginia Commonwealth University College of Engineering is introducing a Bachelor of Arts degree in computer science, available to students in the upcoming 2024-25 school year. Distinct from the college’s Bachelor of Science degree, the new program fills a crucial gap by allowing students to combine computer science education with other specialized fields of study. The proposal for the Bachelor of Arts degree cited recent statistics showing that the majority of information technology jobs are now concentrated in nontech industries, highlighting the importance of a pathway for students from all backgrounds to gain proficiency in computer science. #VCU #RVA #computerscience #studentsuccess

Boise State University and the College of Engineering have launched the university's eighth school, the School of Computing, to provide Idaho with the highly skilled, computing-savvy workforce necessary to drive the state’s competitiveness, innovation and economic growth. Through an interdisciplinary approach, the school will align computing efforts university-wide to offer degree and training programs to enhance computing knowledge for students of all backgrounds and disciplines. The school is guided by a vision built upon three foundational pillars: fundamental computing, computing in the disciplines and computing in society. The school seeks to grow Boise State into a national leader in computing education and research. It really sounds like someone would say "Where is the Science in Computer Science?" (Oct. 2012)... Through the decades of CS history, this field has been serving for almost all other fields, branches and areas of research bringing opportunities those can't be even imagine otherwise. But it should be accepted that CS is not just about computers and calculations, same as astronomy is not about telescope. CS is about computing theory, information theory, instructions, hardware, software, .... Dedicated research and study in CS is vital to keep this field serving for all variety of other fields years to come. https://lnkd.in/eDNHsBbv
