Nearly every school and business you walk into has a mission statement and/or a vision statement written and posted somewhere. The great ones even have staff that can recite these statements. The elite have staff that can also list the goals set in place to make the vision come to life. And that is the difference--it's one thing to have a great mission or vision; it's an entirely different accomplishment to have the steps to achieve that vision written down and being worked on. Elite schools have written-down goals that are measured and evaluated often--quarterly, each semester, or annually in order to know if there is progress being made towards the ultimate vision. Sadly (frustratingly?), over 80% of the public charter schools I work with do not have goals that are written down or measurable. How can they expect to meet their own goals if they have no way to track what those goals are? They can't be. To combat this, I wrote an entire chapter in my book 10 Indicators of High-Performing Charter Schools. I believe that every school can succeed and that every child needs to be in a successful school. I also believe that goals written towards the accomplishment of the vision are the key to schools being successful. Click the link below and let's connect to hear what successes and challenges you're having in implementing action steps. https://lnkd.in/gbYQG4t4
