We spent the day yesterday with our staff and board evaluating and strategizing about our high-level misson, KPI's, and goals, and it felt only fitting to end the day on the eighth floor of the District 121 Building as the highest point in McKinney. Thankful to have a board and staff with great vision to see the future, hearts to strengthen the community, and hands to work out what strategic growth in McKinney can look like. Today, us Scots celebrate St. Andrew’s Day, I’m reflecting on the incredible legacy of Scotland—a small country with a massive impact on the world. From our rolling hills to our lochs, our landscapes are breathtaking, but for me it’s the sheer ingenuity of our people that truly defines us. Scotland has always been a land of ideas. 🏴 Adam Smith, the father of economics, taught the world about the invisible hand of the market—but also the importance of fairness and morality. 🏴 James Watt revolutionised the Industrial Age with the steam engine, reshaping how the world worked and lived. 🏴 Alexander Graham Bell gave us the telephone, changing how we connect across the world. These are just some of the countless Scots whose innovations have shaped humanity. It’s a legacy of bold thinking, unrelenting curiosity, and a deep drive to improve the world. I like to think I emulate that spirit!! St. Andrew’s Day reminds us of these values: humility, collaboration, and resilience in the face of challenges. As a proud Scot, I carry these values with me every day. Our history isn’t just something to look back on—it’s a foundation for what we can build in the future. 🩸 Donated Blood – And Learned Something Cool! 🩸Stephanie Edra thank you for organizing this event! I had the privilege of donating blood in partnership with Stanford Blood Center at the Hyatt Centric. Not only was it an important experience, but I also learned something fascinating that I wanted to share. Turns out, my blood type is O-, and apparently, that makes me a universal donor! 🩸🔄 It’s pretty rare, though, which means it can sometimes be harder to find donors with compatible blood. So, of course, I couldn’t help but ask: Do they save O- blood for other O- people? 🤔 Her answer blew my mind: Nope! O- blood is actually used in emergency situations, especially when babies are born and their blood type isn't yet known, or in trauma cases when there's no time to check blood types. That O- blood is a lifesaver when every second counts. ⏱️ It’s incredible to know how something as simple as donating blood can make such a huge difference.
